    Default 10bit encoding

After searching the forums I found no references to this.

VLC and MPlayer2 already support it, so I wonder if what it takes is an update to the decoders in boxee to make the boxee box able to play 10-Bit H.264 encoded videos.

you might want to PM elis (boxee employee) here on the forum and see if he answers

Yeah, this is pretty neat, but it's currently a bleeding-edge feature with very minimal support. Hell, it's not even supported in mainline VLC yet; only the nightlies. XBMC hasn't yet supported it, either.

But yeah, it's a good idea to alert the Boxee team to this because I think we're gonna see a lot of it in a year or two from now. Once it makes its way into VLC, XBMC, and/or ffmpeg's decoding libraries, we can expect it to show up in Boxee relatively soon.

Not sure what "contacting them" means precisely. I stand by my original advice above.

What is it about "contacting them" that confuses you?

No one really uses 10-bit encoding and the developers of Handbrake have already said no as have Plex and XBMC.

Plus it's also said to be incompatible with hardware acceleration like DXVA or VDPAU which makes it even more inconvenient and may not be viable with the similar hardware acceleration on the Boxee Box.

True no encode groups have switched over yet, but many anime encode groups have already started the switch over, and I personally would like to try it out for my anime encodes.
Please elaborate what does Handbrake or Plex have to do with implementing Hi10p in the Boxee Box ,and could you please link me to where XBMC developers have stated they won't support Hi10p.

Unless you know otherwise the only reason Hi10p is incompatible with GPU acceleration right now is simply because it's so new.

"them" is who exactly and "how" did you contact them?

I think your chances for a direct response are better if you PM the Boxee employee I mentioned above instead.

I had already opened a support ticket to request this a while back, and Kosta at boxee followed up on it for me. It seems it was escalated to Jira as a bug, but I just learned that it was closed as a "Won't Fix" as a hardware limitation.

    http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-10931

It's too bad. For me, the hi10p content count is increasing much more quickly than I expected (yup - anime), so I'll have to look for alternatives.
