I believe my boxee remote changes the volume in the youtube app. Have you tried?

Hrmm... I'll try to double check a few things later tonight. I might have been using XL instead when I had that work for me...

I've got the rii remote and couldn't control the volume in the YouTube app. I tried the directional arrows and the + and - keys on the rii, nothing worked. So buddy of mine got the RII remote and it will turn the volume up and down in youtube app..
I could, however, control the volume for YouTube videos via RSS feeds, watch later, and friends links with either remote.

The Boxee remote does not do this in the YouTube app, that is correct. I believe at one time in the past, with older versions of the YouTube app, this was not the case. But the YouTube app has changed significantly in recent months. Up and down navigate you through the YouTube app's interface, so it would do no good to have those keys mapped to the volume control.
And Darci is correct - you CAN control volume if you're watching YouTube videos by means other than the YouTube app - when you're using the Boxee browser, Friends, RSS Feeds, etc.
If you can control volume with the Rii remote, I suppose that's cool. But I somehow doubt it's possible. Maybe your friend is using an old version of Boxee and the YouTube app - is that possible?
FWIW, the YouTube app UI is horrible. It's buggy, slow to respond, and the UI cues make no sense. It was better in the old days. At least with the new 1.2 RC beta, it does not crash Boxee like it used to.

On the RII remote you have to hit FN then the volume up key.. I'm not sure which button it is off the top of my head but I believe hold FN and then 6 and it controls in app, have not tried the RSS feeds with you tube.
