Thread: Add volume support for all applications via the "stay/leave" popup

Thumbs up Add volume support for all applications via the "stay/leave" popup

For apps that you can't hit up/down to control volume I propose when hitting the "menu" key you get the option to not only leave or stay but also adjust the volume. There could either be a slider or plus and minus buttons just above the leave/stay. This would be unobtrusive and take away the need for controlling volume with a separate remote.

the volume control issue is more to do with the fact that when you press "volume up" or down, it adjusts the element of the flash stream, not the hardware volume.

With apps where there is no volume control (akin to having no volume control on a flash video in a website) , boxee has NO WAY of changing the volume in that app/video.

I'm personally not too sure why boxee didn't just re-implement the volume control so it changes the hardware master volume rather than the flash video element.... but there we go.
Boxee Box > HDMI > HDTV
    2 x HTPC (boxee 0.9) > HDMI > HDTV
    2 x 8TB NAS

So I guess there are two real issues. First is that some apps you can't control because of the type of video file that is being streamed (flash/html5). The second problem is that some apps use the up/down for navigation or other controls.

So my suggestion still stands. Control master volume in places where the up/down can still be used and when you can't use up/down for control reasons have the ability to adjust volume by hitting the menu button and offering a volume slider or plus/minus buttons on the "leave/stay" popup.

Volume control should be front & center, not having to enable adv. settings & turn the remote & hope the app "understands" it.
