Default Boxee remote (Dlink) announced PC support

Today I see that Boxee has announced that their remote (Dlink DSM-22) will now support PC functions
    http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/06/d...-pc-mac-users/

    This is great news.
However, there's no mention of when this will be available? A quick look at the Dlink support page for this device shows no new software available

Well now I'm confused, I thought the remote had been available separately for a long time now, e.g. http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DSM-22-...9972997&sr=8-1

It comes with an RF dongle so it I'm not sure why this is news?

As far as the software goes for OS platforms, it seems the Engadget article is referring to the previously announced "Fall timeline" for the next OS versions to be released.

PS my point about the RF dongle is that this remote should work with the PC versions of Boxee now, no need to wait for any updates.

Default Maybe I have it wrong?

No, maybe I'm the one confused.
I assumed the announcement was referring to making the Boxee remote function on a PC when outside of the Boxee application.
I have been using the remote for months on a Windows based Boxee platform. Currently, the remote is useless when not running Boxee. I am unable to use it to cursor around the windows destop, etc.

    Ah, I see.

As far as I know, the Boxee remote is only for the Boxee software and hasn't ever been intended to be a general purpose remote.

well, someone came up with a 'shortcut script' to run within windows to start up the Boxee sofware, so there must be something in the remote which communicates with the PC to work per se

I've not tried it myself with browser, but then again,
i'm always watching Boxee (tv/movies) haha

this would be a much needed function for a lot of users though
be nice to create a shortcut to open up IE
and then just use the keyboard to start typing in URL addresses and go....
