Default This is my setup. What can I do to improve it?

So, I have an old AppleTV 160GB that I hacked with lord-knows-what-version of some hack about 4-6 months ago.

(The hack I used included a bunch of things like Perian, XBMC, Boxee, Sapphire, and a lot more.)

Anyway, I'd used Boxee on a friend's AppleTV sometime before that and liked it, mostly because it'd link to my Facebook and allow me to share what I was watching with other people on my wall, and such.
I used it on my own for awhile, hooking a memory stick or hard drive up to it and watching things that way, but it seemed that when I would have a lot of movies on the hard drive, Boxee would crash the AppleTV while indexing them, assumedly because there were just so damn many.

Is there a way around this?

Anyhow, since then, I've mostly just been playing movies thru my shared iTunes library (I have all my movies/TV shows converted into iTunes-compatible formats and shared from another computer on the network, now), but I of course don't get the coolness of Boxee out of doing things that way, so I'd like to switch back if I could.

Is there any way for me to index movies that I have stored on an external hard drive that is connected to my Macbook pro, on the same network as my AppleTV? If so - how?

    Any help would be appreciated!

...for the record, I believe the hard drives are FAT32-formatted, and not "for Macs".

I missed your post. I would turn off the scanning of the source (do it once). Manually do it. This will fix the issue. I know its a pain, but it works.
