Default Can't connect to smb share on NAS

I am trying to get boxee to connect to an smb share from my Synology NAS...Whenever I do this on my appletv, boxee seems to restart. I have been able to work around this by using nitoTV, mapping the drive and then referencing it as a local drive.

    Just letting you know.

This has been driving me nuts too. Thanks for the work-around Mark - I'll give it a try and report back tomorrow.

I'm also having the same problem. Every time I try to add the SMB share as a source boxee crashes. I have found that I've been able to browse the network and go into my shared folder and even play a video, but just can't add it as a source.
I've found that so far it works best if I authenticate through SMB (rather that using a guest account). I'll try it later today and send in my crash logs.

Default Having the same problem as you...

I've been having the same annoyance -- I have an Infrant NAS and I see one of 3 things:

    1) Mount NAS using AFP -- network settings say 'Connected', but I can never access the share (it brings up a dialog box stating there was a loading error)

    2) Mount NAS using uPnP -- Network sources settings show 'Not Connected' so never index the data, but I can manually access all of it just fine

    3) Mount NAS using SMB -- AppleTV either crashes all together or states 'No files at source'

I really want the thing to automatically connect to my NAS and start indexing the files rather than requiring me to access it manually.

I'm considering buying an NAS for my network. Are these connection issues with USB NAS connections or ethernet? Seems like anyone who specified connection has said they were using USB to their router. Are there similar issues with ethernet?

Are there any NAS devices that are working?

Default Try Renaming the smb Share Folder

For some reason renaming the smb share folder to "Films" fixed everything for me. When it was named "Movies" I could see and select the files... but the "cursor" would spin for a few seconds and then return to the movie list view.

I'm a little late with my update, but here's where I currently stand. I was about to install NitoTV to create local symlinks to smb mounts instead of using Boxee's SMB client, but that functionality on the pre-Jan09 alpha release stabilized enough that I put it off to keep my system as clean as possible.

Now that I'm running the latest alpha, SMB stability has been markedly improved, so I'm going to hold off on NitoTV local symlinks to my NAS drive for now.

I'm also experimenting with a WiFi bridge since I suspect a weak wireless signal was a big part of my problem.

    Lets wait and see.
