Default Have a shared Boxee Database on a network-drive

    Hello,

I would like to suggest the possibility of having the Boxee Database information places on a network-drive.

The reason for this is that I have to Boxee Boxes, and even when the network-sources are the same, they find different movies, series etc. on my network-sources.

It would be fantastic to go from one box to another and the second box have the "continues from [time]" on the movie played on the first box.

Also when identifying movies on one box, I currently have to identify it again on the other box = double the work.

Having the database as a share for both boxes will give me the same data on each box and a very nice feature from moving from one room to another and still have all the same data + time.

Of cource it should only be an option to use a db on a network-drive, so that you can deside for yourself where to store it.

Lot's of people want this feature or something, it has been mentioned a few times at least. This feature is the sole reason I am considering switching back to xbmc, waiting on announcement of whatever boxee is working on. I have 3x boxee right now and use each one almost daily.

There are multiple ways they could fix this problem besides what you suggest, they could have a master/slave relationship which I think is the most requested solution. Where remote boxees just rely on a main boxee for all DB stuff. The other method would be to continue to have each boxee have its own database, but sync watched/unwatched and resume timers via your boxee account. Similar to using the watch later list for movies and shows. This works great for movies for me right now but just doesn't cut it for TV shows.

As someone who just had to Factory Restore my Boxee Box due to an infinite reboot issue, I SERIOUSLY want this now. Its been something I, as someone who watches video on multiple Boxee Boxes plus the Windows version, have wanted for quite a while. It's really annoying to try and figure out which episodes you have / have not watched, or where you were in the middle of one when you swap rooms. Also storing the database on another location would solve the current problem I am facing after the Factory Restore, which is the Boxee has to rescan all my drives of media. Considering *just* the folder for television is over 100 folders, its gonna take ALONG time. This coupled with the fact I lost ALL my watched/unwatched flags, causing me what is going to be hours of just sorting through what I have / have not watched yet, makes me seriously consider finding another streaming solution.

I want this more for a back up. I have about 1800 movies and the Boxee couldn't identify 400 of them. Not bad but I don't want to spend the time going through those one by one for a chance to lose it all and have to go through it again. Also if I get another Boxee for my house would be awesome to share those settings between the Boxee's and if my friend VPN's his Boxee to me he can share that data to.

Another option is allow a USB back-up. That way if I have to do a factory restore I caan just reload the settings or load them to a new Boxee.

I think we need more people to vote / comment on this.

For those 400 files you really want to use NFO files... But yes a centralized database would be very nice.

If you can find it I highly reccommend ember media manager. the only stuff it cant find (and the boxee therefore cant identify) are my kids Hi5 DVD's. Everything else is picked up and shows in the boxee correctly. It can be a little time consuming first off but once the initial catalogue is done it takes no time at all to make sure you have an up to date library with correct NFO and cover art.
And I too would love to have a centralised database of some sort as I am about to purchase my second boxee box

EMM's a great app - here's a few links to different and older versions

v1.2.xxxx should be used - I use v1.2.2415 and would not consider updating to a different version, this version works flawlessly for me - but I don't have a D/L for .2415

    Link to D/L 3 versions - http://sourceforge.net/projects/emm-r/files/1.2/

    v1.2.2420 - http://www.mediafire.com/?r14tx8iexutv2er

    v1.2.2385 - http://download.chip.eu/en/Ember-Med...r_7585499.html

    Older versions 1.x.x - http://code.google.com/p/embermediam...+DownloadCount
