Default Custom Boxee Box with AMD/Win7x64 question

Just rolled my own Boxee Box with the new AMD APU E350, running 64bit Win7.

I've experienced several issues, and after searching the forums and coming up with nothing, I thought I'd post my questions here.

    • CBS Shows - I can watch the ads but then when the show is supposed to start, I get a black screen. Boxee thinks the show is playing, since the timer is running, but now audio or video. When I choose the source "CBS - ad supported" I receive a message stating that my browser is using ad blocking software and that I should disable it. Any thoughts?
    • NBC shows - when I start any NBC show, it takes me to NBC's web page. I see the NBC logo fade in/out and then the show never starts. If I tap "enter" to make the screen fullscreen, the whole computer just freezes and I have to reboot the machine.
    • Netflix - shows are incredibly choppy and I keep receiving an message stating that my show is being adjusted because of changing bandwidth, even though my boxee box is the only thing utilizing the network at the time.

Could these issues be because Boxee or Flash or the new AMD chip aren't fully supported yet?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

What GPU do you have on that box?

It's the new AMD E350 APU, so its an all-in-one chip. Technically it has the specs of an HD 6310.

Re: Netflix -- need to check that W7 has hardware acceleration enabled through that chip. Minimally this means Aero should be enabled. What else might be needed on that set up, I don't know.

Also make sure you have the latest manufacturer's drivers for that chip, motherboard, and network (if that's separate).

Regarding CBS/NBC -- not sure if this is a localized problem or not; what version of Flash do you have installed via Firefox and IE?

    Darcilicious,

I'll check that hardware acceleration is enabled and let you know what version of flash is installed. I'm pretty sure its 10.3 as I've been using Ninite to install everything and that always grabs the latest/greatest versions of flash.

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Netflix isn't going to work on that processor no matter what you do. It just doesn't have the power.

Remember that the Netflix app for the 0.9 beta won't leverage GPU acceleration regardless of what hardware/software platform you're running it on. The version of Silverlight it uses is just too old. It's all CPU. And because the Netflix app defaults to HD streaming, you need at least a Core 2 Duo-class processor for it to work properly.

NBC's site seems to not work properly with the Boxee beta software. I just tried playing "Chuck" and "The Event", and it will only play windowed. If I try to make it full screen, it goes blank after the lead-in commercial is over.

CBS seems to work fine for me, and I'm using the 10.3 version of Flash as well. I just tried playing an NCIS episode, and it played full-screen just fine.

Yeah, and like Darci said: make sure you have the latest Catalyst drivers from AMD installed.

    Everyone,

Confirmed that hardware acceleration is enabled on the card. And Flash 10.3 for all browsers is enabled.

I'm going to check CBS' site in a regular browser and see if I can clear things up. But within Boxee I'm still receiving the error about having ad blocking software enabled, which after checking Firefox, there are no extensions or add ons installed.

Thanks for everyone's help so far!

    -Ben
