Question HELP! Change Video Cover Art Thumbnail

    Hi All,

I apologize in advance if this has already been resolved, but i have been looking for an answer everywhere and haven't been able to find a thing!

So pretty much, I have my boxee box reading two external hard drives, one being movies and one being tv shows. Anyways, the box has found pretty much all my cover art, but I am extremely anal and want to have cover art for all my files.

Also, some videos did have the right cover art thumbnail however they seem to have been deleted from the IMDB database so it leaves the thumbnail as just a screenshot of the video. Is there a reason that some of them are just unable to be added even though they exist?

So basically what I am asking is if there is any way to add my own thumbnails for my movies or TV shows (the ones that boxee box cannot find)? Or is there an alternative solution to my problem??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

On a side note, does anybody know the exact release date of the new firmware update?

    Thanks a lot

If your movies are in their own folder, e.g.

    The Titanic\The.Titanic.avi

then you can add a jpg of the cover art and name it: folder.jpg and put in the folder.

On a side note, does anybody know the exact release date of the new firmware update?
Boxee doesn't announce releases in advance -- they've publicly committed to May and that's probably as good as it's going to get until they announce it themselves.

Thanks for the response, it is appreciated.

How do I apply the photos to get these new thumbnails to appear?

    Thanks

Boxee will pickup whatever image is called folder.jpg in that folder. You may need to minimally rescan your local source, or try removing/re-adding the local source folder or worst case, clearing the media database and re-scanning from scratch.

You can search the forums on: folder.jpg for more about this topic.

You can rename the movie folder that you added the image for, that usually works. It is very annoying that there is no way to force the image to be read without rescanning from scratch or pretending that it's a new file, but that's what it does.

What size should the pictures be for best resolution on the box?

I heard 299x434 which looks to be correct. However, the bb is having a slight issue cropping them

If all the videos are in one folder, create a JPEG image but save it with the same filename as the video file but with an extension of .tbn (it is easiest to save it with a .jpg extension first and then rename it to .tbn). For example:

    Movie: Sin City
    Video File: Sin.City.(2005).avi
    Image File: Sin.City.(2005).tbn

Thanks everyone for their help. It seemed to have work (darcilicious' advice) for most movies although there still are maybe one or two that are not fixing.

For example the movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars (the animated one)... IMDB actually has a cover for it but for some reason it does not incorporate it with the boxee box, so im left with a screenshot of the film for that thumbnail. I tried to put my own as folder.jpg but for some reason it is not changing... Anybody know why this may be?

Is there also a way to do this for tv shows? For example the tv show Big Shots (not very good if you haven't seen it) does not pick up a cover art from imdb so i tried to put one in myself the same way i would for movies. There are two possibilities why it may not work:

    1) I put my seasons into separate folders so for example my folders are (TV Shows -> Big Shots -> Season 1)

In this case, do i place the .jpg in the "season 1" folder or in the "big shots" folder? what if there are multiple seasons of a show?

    2) I took picture sizes that are incorrect

I don't believe that this would be a reason since i figure boxee box just crops the image to the standard size (this would be a problem for movies as well i'm assuming)

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
