netflix does not work on linux

Yes, this is a Firefox plugin, but doesn't allow access to Netflix streams even within Firefox. I'm not sure if that's simply a Netflix website failure (assumes that it wouldn't work) or something else, but imagine that playing within Boxee is yet another matter. Does anyone know if that development makes Boxee support more imminent? Previously, the Moonlight release was anticipated in the Fall, so maybe this moves up the schedule by 6 months???

Since Netflix is the only silverlight content I've encountered so far, I haven't been able to test this plugin yet. Flash appears much more prevalent - and it works

EDIT: I tried other silverlight content (eg. NBC Olympics), but all the websites claim that my system isn't compatible and won't send the streams, even though I have the Moonlight 1.0 plug-in available. Perhaps their filters are flawed and dismiss me on the basis of Linux (Ubuntu 8.10) despite Firefox 3.0.6 and Moonlight 1.0.

FYI, I am aware the confusion isn't Boxee's fault. I'm just hoping support arrives soon by whatever route possible.

You might have better luck with the Moonshine plugin. I'm not at a Linux machine at the moment so I can't try it out right now.

Here's more info about Moonshine. I haven't looked into it too closely yet, but it's possible the MTK framework could be leveraged by stand-alone apps like Boxee.

the version of moonlight 1.0 released is compatible with silverlight 1.0, netflix requires 2.0. the moonlight alpha 2.0 is expected in june.

I just found this http://www.themediamall.com/playon

It's a upnp server that allows you to stream netflix movies through your network. All you have to do is install it on a windows machine on you network and then add it as network resource in xbmc, boxee, xbox, or playstaion. I just installed boxee in mythbuntu and it worked great! It looked good too.

Just thought I'd share.

Boxee: could you please post which things work on which OSes please? Preferably before signing up, or before downloading?

It took me a few hours of frustration installing this on my little laptop... then searching... authorizing an account... more searching... only to find out there is NO linux netflix.

I'm going to keep it, since it conveniently has a lot of net video all in one place, but still. Don't disappoint people by promising something on the front page and not at least letting them know there are varying feature levels between the OSes.

P.S. same thing for Pandora for linux. I shouldn't have to search a forum to find out where key features are (or are not).

Wait, Pandora doesn't work in Linux either?

I figured I'd switch for Hulu, Pandora and/or Netflix. Any one of the above would be great.

Agreed, it would be nice if there was a list of things that *don't* work in the Linux build, rather than having to spend hours digging through forums and wikis and still wondering.

Not complaining, it's a great product, just a little suggestion for something that would help the Community a lot.

Is netfilx working in the newest linux build? I seen the plugin is there but, havent tried it sens I do not have a netflix acct. I'm waiting until it works in Boxee before paying for it.
