Default mlb.tv performance on boxee box

    Hello-

I'm pretty excited to have mlb.tv on my new boxee box, but I must say the performance is pretty dissapointing. The video stutters, stops, skips ahead, and loses audio all the time. When watching games from the start if the video freezes (which is often does) there's no way to resume from the last point.

What it the future for this app? Is it continually being improved? Does anybody else have this performance issue? Any tips on improving it?

    Thank you.

    -Nate

The fast forwarding really needs to be fixed on MLB.tv for the Boxee Box. It works fine on Boxee in both Ubuntu and Windows but on the Boxee Box it skips 10-15 minutes forward and then hangs or goes into slow-mo. The app wouls also be better with a jump to inning feature or support for MILB.tv (minor league). With the fast forwarding so broken it is getting close to unusable.

I don't know the timeline but it seems like there's an updated version of this app coming out: http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.ph...971#post173971

Ok, I marked it acceptable but I'd like to mark it higher. Not flawless, just higher than acceptable.

I'm currently watching the Padres and Cardinals and the video is pretty darn good. I've had no issues with drops or anything. It's been great. Infact it has been BETTER than my PS3. I was watching the same game on the PS3 and when the action sped up on screen, the picture would turn to cr@p until the action settled down. The audio also had very subtle drops in it, like hiccups. I have seen NONE of that on the Boxee. When the actions speeds up, the picture stays stable and clear and sharp and the audio is flawless.

BTW, I now DO see the difference in the app... they updated it so MLB can stream COMMERCIAL SLIDES between innings... geez. The PS3 does it too so it's not just boxee.

One note, make sure if you are using the 1080p/24 display setting that you also check the match frame rate option right below it. Otherwise it will stutter.

Guys it turns out this is an issue on MLB's side according to their latest blog post comment by Rob. Apparently Roku and a couple other STB's are experiencing the same issue as well. We had this same exact situation last year. I would say that MLB.TV will have this fixed within a few weeks (judging by their speed in the past).

    From Rob:
There were some issues with a couple Opening Day streams, much like we had last year. The folks at MLB.tv are working hard to get these discontinuities resolved and we should expect more consistent performance over the course of the next couple weeks.

I think they upped the bitrate to 4.5mb/s this year too. I have definately noticed a difference between this year and last year in terms of quality. In all honesty, I would like commercials. HOW CRAZY IS THAT!?!?! The reason is because unlike with Hulu, you cant simply remove the commercials. I always hated staring at a circling "We'll be right back message" it made me uncomfortable. Just sitting there with nothing on the screen and no sound is kinda weird. But maybe I am in the minority here.

Yeah, i dont know what it is but compared to the PS3, the FF/RW is awful. But the last blog post the nex update is going to bring a big fix on that front so lets hope it fixes that too.

I cant even watch a game. The feed just buffers, then plays for a couple seconds, fast fowards itself, pauses, audio is out of sync. Its completly unwatchable.

my boxee box is wired to my router, every other app works great. Anything i can do on my end?

    Really thinking about doing this.
question:How can I get around the local black out? do they just use the billing address from the cc you use to pay? could I have a family member for example sign up for me?
