I've already pointed you to a 3rd party decent music app that's free. Not sure that Boxee will ever come up with anything better...

    Default i agree

I agree. The music manager/application could use some updates.

Yes, thank you darcilicious. You did point out the free music app. I just was looking for something similar in appearance to the old xbmc media player or winamp. I suppose bottom line, I should consider a different media player if playing music is an important consideration. The Popcorn Hour seems to have really improved their music UI.

You also said it is on the list of to dos.

While I realize there are alternative methods, this is a method of media display, it should be native... and natively not suck. Requiring the user to jump through hoops to get the same basic feature set as most every foss audio player out there with a download is a bit unfair.
I doubt we want better (yet), just on par.
If I was not running this off the Boxee Box, I would just use alt software. I don't need social abilities or playlist sharing with my friends - just a better experience for listening or even rediscovering my own ripped music collection.

    Please don't blow us off.

Hope this wasn't directed to me personally?? I'm not blowing anyone off. If you look through JIRA, you'll see that I've either submitted or commented/voted on every single music related issue filed.

I'm also realistic. The Box has been out 15 months and I only recall one bug being fixed for the music player. Until something changes (which I think is unlikely), I will continue to point folks to reasonable alternatives.

Not really directed at you, but it is less friendly to say search through this thread to find the alternatives mentioned then cull through lots of other pages to figure out how to install them or make them work. I looked that the Subbox thread linked and it's a LONG thread.. which starts off with a link that's broken IIRC. I'm not lazy about it. I spent the better part of a day installing LotRO on a Ubuntu system - still doesn't work yet, but I want it and will check more instructions for it - but I know exactly where to look.

I think we're just dumbfounded that the music option was so nearly ignored and acts like an after-thought. With options like Raspberry Pi coming that will support XBMC for a fraction of the cost of the Boxee Box, I'd hope for more innovation where people are begging for it. Streaming payfer/commercial media (netflix, et al) just doesn't interest *me*.. I have media at home I want easy access to.

    Don't take it personally.

Works fine (as a repo URL) for me.

Also, I was responding to fixit, who wanted a 3rd party to step in; my response was simply that I had already pointed him to such a thing in another thread he posted in. (An app btw that takes less than five minutes to "install" and use).

Perhaps next time you could skip over quoting me since it's clear you're just generally unhappy with the situation (not that I blame you one bit).

    Default Media Player

If nothing has been done in 15 months and if they cannot fix something as simple as being able to randomize your entire music collection (a $30 mp3 player can do that), then the boxee probably is not the best device for playing music. We do not need abilities like creating playlists as that would be easier to do on a PC.
Has anyone from the boxee team responded to any of these threads, or any other music app thread?
I do not want to purchase two media players- one for playing music and the other for playing videos.

Nope and they aren't likely to as they rarely comment on upcoming features.
