Which affordable wlan n router works with the Boxee Box?

Hey guys!

I have a dlink DIR-300 router, which my Boxee Box is regularely losing connection to, but as it is only a wlan g router anyway, i was thinking about switching to a faster router.

So i was wondering if you can give me advice on which wlan n router works perfectly with the box and isnt that expensive?

My Dlink DIR 655 worked very well with my boxeebox. I'm wired now, but at first I was wireless for a little over a month. I don't tend to play very high bitrate stuff though. I think my highest right now is about 7 Mbps..

I use a Netgear WNDR 3700 and it works wonderfully. Had a D-Link before and was having trouble with it. The Netgear hasn't lost a connection yet (been running constantly since November, when I got it) and never any trouble with buffering etc. I run exclusively off wireless and the Boxee Box is about 50 feet from the router and through 2 walls.

I've had Linksys and Netgear fail within months of purchase. I recently went with the D-link dir-825 and it works like a champ. You may consider WD Livewire powerline AV depending on your current routers/ networks capabilities and skip the wireless all together where streaming is involved. Its good in older housing if you don't want to drill holes and run cables. Get your data through/ across your existing power line! I'd say that an accurate recommendation would depend mostly on your allocated budget for this purchase.

I'm cheap, I really don't care about dealing with the hassles of properly utilizing a dual-band network (which the Boxee Box doesn't support anyway), and I prefer open firmware.

So one of these would be my personal recommendation:

BUFFALO WHR-HP-G300N This one has replaceable antennas and is cheaper, but doesn't have gigabit Ethernet.

BUFFALO WZR-HP-G300NH This one has fixed antennas and costs a bit more, but it has gigabit Ethernet

Both allow the use of the DD-WRT firmware and are rated very highly.

Make sure whatever you get is running N over 2.4GHZ spectrum not 5. From what I've read that seems to be the issue many have with their N networks. I have a dual radio Airport Extreme, mine broadcasts N in the 5Ghz spectrum and no dice. I had to go wired...G isn't enough for 720p...I was getting some stutters. I have two Boxee Boxes, so I know it's not a bad device. Fortunately I wired my house with cat6, so just had to upgrade my switch to one with a couple more ports.

I don't think they even make 5ghz-only routers anymore. They're all either dual-band or 2.4ghz-only.

Not sure what your budget is, but D-link has some interesting new routers coming out soon that should play nice.

I'm running an Asus RT-N16 here and it is pretty good. Very beefy specs, gigabit, USB, all the trimmings. BTW, it is 2.4GHz only - no 5GHz support.

Best of all, it can run the DD-WRT firmware which I find very stable and reliable.
