    Default boxee + MCE remote

    Hello,

so, who is using boxee with a Microsoft Media Center remote? I have a re-branded remote from an old pre-built PC which works fine, except that neither "Clear" nor "Back" takes me back one step in the navigation.

Did your mappings work straight from the start? Did you install drivers? Any additional mapping software?

Problem persists on both Vista Business x64 and XP Prof. SP3.

    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Tim

By default the remote will IIRC only send throught the directionaly and OK buttons as keystrokes. You'll need WinLIRC or EventGhost to get the rest of the functionality going. Disclaimer: This is only speculation - I don't have Boxee on Windows

I use the Logitech diNovo Mini. It has a media-center remote mode.

Navigation when in or out of the media center remote mode works really well with Boxee. No complaints yet.

I prefer the MCE mode. When in MCE mode I just use the round circle at the top right, and the back button (right to the left of the round circle) for everything.

I am using the Logitech diNovo Mini also, its a nice device although sometimes you need to "reset" the connection by removing the battery! (I am not the only one with the problem, google it)

I would rather use the mce remote... but thats because I can buy a new one for a few bucks when my kids destroy it.. and believe me, my kids destroy everything

oh my god. that family picture is the essence of kitsch in advertising.

thanks for the replies, i will try a third party tool to map the buttons.

Another disclaimer : I too have yet to try the boxee windows alpha.

However I concur. EventGhost is simply awesome. I've been using it for a couple of days now and it's just so powerful

I loved it so much that I started coding in python.

Monitor windows/network and remote network events and drag them into macros. Deactivate MCE and activate VLC controls automatically. I'm in awe !

It looks like there already is an EventGhost script for XBMC (see http://www.eventghost.org/forum/view...st=0&sk=t&sd=a)

So enhancing that for Windows Boxee could be very cool.

I'm using the Boxee for Mac alpha now although I'm hoping to get on the Windows Boxee alpha list to see how that plays with the systems here! Stay tuned...

I also find it hard to navigate with my gateway branded mce remote. It only seems like some of the buttons work and half the time I need to navigate with the mouse.
I wonder if boxee is supposed to support mce remotes out of the box or will there be a future settings option which you can choose which remote you have.

I am sure future support for different types of remotes will be better. As of know, I think the windows version is still very close to the mac version, code-wise. The remote functionality is still tailored to the Apple Remote.
