I know this has been mentioned before, but in light of this post from Avner:
… I figured it’s time to pull the requests together and make it a bit more structured.
So: I’d like to see full EyeTV integration with Boxee on the Mac. The ability to watch live television via EyeTV would be great. Having your recorded shows appear in Boxee’s TV show list would be even better. Being able to read the TVTV programme guide and schedule recordings, all from within Boxee, would be utterly amazing.
I don’t know much about the technical challenges posed by all that. I don’t know if it’s easier to watch live TV in Boxee through EyeTV’s software, or to write Boxee’s own TV viewer and just use the hardware that many of us already have for EyeTV.
Here’s some of the previous requests for EyeTV support here on the forum:
mac / eyetv
Boxee and eyetv or the tube
Eyetv support / plugin on the osx version?
And here’s instructions on how to set up a live stream from one Mac running EyeTV to another running Boxee: Thread link (That doesn’t really address what EyeTV integration could be like if done properly, though.)
There are only really two mainstream TV choices for Mac users, EyeTV and The Tube. Of those, EyeTV has the better distribution and higher market share. If there’s ever going to be live TV from a standard TV ariel included in Boxee, as well as all the web TV sources, then it seems like the sensible standard to adopt.
