    Default App signing process

I just read the release notes of new boxee box firmware and it mentions that 3rd party apps will no longer work until signed.

This sounds like something that needs to be discussed out in the open and hopefully with boxee team members giving honest answers.

They either kill navi-x or approve a piracy app. Which do you think?

I'm waiting to hear back about this, but I have an app in development on a 3rd party repo and we were not informed. Everything is working just needs some tweaks here and there, but now it sounds like this will add to the dev time as well - and well maybe just maybe they can now just hit a switch and make my new application not work.

    NOT COOL.

Bad move. I wonder if it was demanded by the premium content providers.

Also I wonder if folks running the beta should piegeon it away so that they can't begin only allowing "upgraded" i.e. signed downloads of Boxee in the future.

An announcement was sent out to developers over a week ago that this was coming. I'll see if I can post that, or get someone to make an official announcement or something.

I've developed apps for boxee and hadn't heard any of this.

This only means that they will have to sign the app I'm order to run it. once it is sign it will run the same way as before. We don't impose any restrictions on applications developers beside this.

It will run 3rd party applications as before

Q - Are there specific app providers who are going to be blocked? I can think of one that rhymes with navee exx that I don't see getting signed by the Boxee Team.
    A - No.

This is one of the reason we getting this out in rc. We want app dev to be able to do the signing process before this one is out.
    Don't panic...

so we either have an "open" box -- which many were a fan of -- or we have an mpaa-submissive box that delivers legit legal content (read: netflix)-- which many were looking forward to....

at the moment, 4 months after putting down real cash money, we have neither

    bravo guys.

I concur. Almost 5 minutes after my post I heard from Rob Spectre from Team Boxee. He said he'd put me on the mailing list and apologized. So it sounds like some tweaks need to be made in xml, but it's nothing major (I hope).

I'm a lil worried about it still, but ok, at least he reached out.
