Default New firmware RC available 1.0.4.17248

Below you will find instructions on how to install the latest RC version of the firmware on your Boxee Box.

This version includes some minor bug fixes, but includes some deep changes to underlying code so we want to make sure we don't have any regressions with this build.

You can post your feedback on this thread or contact me directly at marcel{at}boxee{dot}tv.

This version includes mainly bug fix's such as :

    • New/Experimental: support Dolby TrueHD bit streaming.
    • New/Experimental: Fix the Black screen issue some users are having (only if you are able to view the start up video animation)
    • Fix: Sometimes subtitle font was too small
    • Fix: On some audio receivers (mainly Onkyo), audio was lost after switching screen

    Known Issues:

    * Apps from 3rd party repos will not run on this build. This is due to a new App signing process we are putting in place. Over the next few days the developers of these apps will be able to sign their apps, which will get them working again.

    * Some users might experience when launching the Vudu application -”The VUDU application is not authorized for this device ” this is caused by the box not receiving a response from the NTP server and the date and time are incorrect (We are working hard to fix this as soon as possible in the meantime a temporary solution is to try a “Factory Reset” from the recovery mode and then manually upgrade to this firmware and/or make sure your firewall is not blocking UDP port 123.)

If you have at anytime want to revert to the previous version please use this link.

    Installation

    1. Please download this file
    2. Follow the instructions here, to apply to your Box.

The Boxee source code will be available on our website later tonight

    Enjoy,
    Team Boxee

    marcel,

Any news on the release of Netflix today? A lot of us on the forum are really keeping our fingers crossed that it will be released today and would really like to see an update on this so we don't feel left in the dark

    Thanks,

I'm curious, what is the reasoning behind the app signatures? Will the Boxee team be able to control what third party apps are available (i.e. block apps they don't want users to have)?

I say it has more to do with DRM for apps like Netflix. They require something to be in place. Which is probably what's holding things up.

    "...App signing process..."

I am not liking the sound of this. I really liked being able to run any third party app someone made. With the hardware locked down this was the only thing that was truly open about the device. Now we potentially losing the ability to run whatever app we want.

No word on netflix and signs of boxee being more locked down than apple are not good things to hear.
