It potentially could with the protected content partners. Who could potentially pull their content and that would screw everyone. Currently the Boxee Box is the best media player out there. It has come closest to getting everything right. Much closer than any other media player available.

Living in Canada, it's hard enough to get anything up here...
So, when we do, I appreciate it

I wanted Netflix Canada, so my first Netflix enabled device was an Insignia blu ray player...I will never play a blu ray disc but bought for it for the Neflix feature..Set it up for the wife.
Wanting something different I checked around and had 2 choices..Apple Tv or BB..
    I chose the latter

It works fine for me...Keep playin and we could lose the likes of Netflix..
But, like you said...I can't control what you do..
But, I can speak my mind...

Not being a us purchaser (who paid about 2.5x what a us buyer did) I dont have any return policy.

And I disagree that a direct question to the head honcho getting such a clear and direct assurance is not a promise. Its what he said should happen, it hasnt.

    Everyone:

Thank you for your comments on the pros and cons of having an open or requiring a closed BBox. For the sake of clarity here, please keep this thread for those that want to show their support, in a monetary way, for an open BBox.

Please do not debate the value of this in other threads. Thank you very much!

Default Marcel Hass Vandalizes Posts to Change Meaning

In an embarassing display of unprofessionalism and dishonesty, Marcel Hass of Boxee has publicly revealed his lack integrity in the post above this one. He vandalized my post, completely changing its meaning, without making clear what he did. Look closely at the post above, versus post #101 in this thread. He ADDED "do not" and completely changed the meaning of my statement. This is a complete abuse of moderator power.

See the full explanation at http://infinityoverzero.com/bbox/marcelhass.php

Also see Marcel's communication with me regarding D-Link and Boxee violating the GPL. More on that story at

    http://infinityoverzero.com/bbox/

    Thanks

    Openboxee.

A moderator edit should be highlighted so that readers know what is being written by the moderator. A moderator should instead delete portions of text and then add a block with their own explanation. You've posted a good example of a really bad moderator move.

However, that said... If your original text said "Please debate the value of this in other threads" it's an indication that you're trying to hijack the usefulness of this forum and create anarchy. If I were a moderator, I would have suspended your account immediately (temporarily) for that comment.

What you posted is called, in technical terms, "being a jackass."

As a piece of advice from someone who is not a lawyer, you may want to watch how and what you post, especially on your own site. You're really getting close to libeling Marcel and Boxee. From what I've seen (and again, I'm not a lawyer) you have a bigger case against you (in terms of libel) than Boxee does with regards to possible violation of GPL.

    Just saying.

My honest, humble and most pro-active suggestion is to stop for a moment, look in the mirror and then go back and read everything you've written about Boxee and any of its employees. Consider some large revisions to further your ultimate goal, because going on the offensive is most definitely not going to get you what you want. You might consider going at this issue from a different angle as it can probably be solved by alternative means. For instance, you don't necessarily need access to Boxee's crypto keys to install new software. What if Boxee were to release an otherwise blank software update that would prepare the box to take new software? It would maintain security, not allowing access to the currently installed system by wiping it completely. And the source Boxee publishes wouldn't include sensitive components like their crypto and any sub-projects or apps that rely on it, such as Netflix, etc.

Default It is Official, I quit

I give up BOXEE! For some reason I have been fight (what I believed to be) the good! I spoke highly of you. Defending you to my friends... and my wife. Bought the BOXEE BOX, and believed your promises.

YOU HAVE FALLEN SHORT ON THEM ALL.

I do not understand, but I am finished waiting for you to do things you promise, assure, or guarantee. If anyone is considering buying a Boxee box vs apple tv vs Roku. Go apple tv.

Seek out a first gen apple tv.
Install XBMC, BOXEE, and NITO TV and you will finally have everything Boxee claimed you would have on the BOX. P.s. install the alpha boxee, not the beta
]Looking for where to go now that everything is changing? AGAIN!!!
