    Default DTS Sound HDMI

So I have my boxee connected directly to my tv with an HDMI cable.
Problem is when I watch a ripped movie that has DTS or 5.1 surround, the dialog volume is really low. The ambient stuff like explosions etc and extremely loud when you turn the TV to a level that the dialog is audible.
Anyone else experience this? Any setting I can tweak to boost the center volume?
    thanks.

Have you tried tweaking the settings on your receiver? I've found that by default, on some receivers that don't use a mic to calibrate things for you, that things are as you describe; the voices are really low. This is because the center channel is usually set at 0 along with your FR and FL speakers.

He's using a TV, not a receiver, therefore any adjustment to the stereo down-mix would have to be done on Boxee's end.

I'm not sure if there are any audio adjustments at the moment that can overcome this issue, but please do put in a request for it - it's a very sensible thing to ask for. Normalization of multi-channel audio.

In the interim you could process the audio stream into Flac which is lossless and downmix to stereo and normalize the audio stream at the same time, might help & is a pretty quick process.

Download Staxrip load in your movie
    • set video encoding profile to "just mux"
    • set container as MKV
    • deselect field and crop
    • click blue audio edit text
    • select Flac as the codec, channels 2 (stereo) and tick the box to normalize
    • name the preset "Flac Stereo" and click save from profiles menu

Now select flac stereo as your audio preset, click next, and start. Staxrip will copy the original video stream into the mkv container while converting the audio stream into flac.

I watched a couple of movies from BD ISOs this past weekend at my girlfriends . This was over hdmi and using the tv speakers. There were no volume issues for us.

With this Staxrip it will keep the original sound as well?
