Default General Performance Issues on ATV

I have the 2.8GHz 24" iMac and a brand new AppleTV. The ATV is connected to a Sony 40" LCD tv ( kdl-40v3000 ) via hdmi and connected to my gigabit wireless router via a wired connection. The iMac is about 30' away from the router and is connected via wireless. I have the latest build of boxee running on both.

I have noticed a marked difference between the two units: navigating the boxee "screens" is fluid and fast on the iMac, but herky jerky on the ATV and the video quality seems to display much better on the iMac ( which is set for full 1080 resolution ). Actually, the entire boxee interface appears more crisp on the iMac.

I am just curious if anyone else has seen this and what anyone's thoughts were...

Well since your iMac is way more powerful than the AppleTV it sort of stands to reason you're going to get better performance on the iMac than the Apple TV.

For certain the ATV is pretty anemic compared to a 2.8 GHz iMac, but I was just noticing myself that the new build of Boxee seems to be somewhat slower on the ATV than the previous release...

Just to put a little more to this than "it seems slower", I found a more concrete example -- adding subtitles to a tv show slows it down enough that the video visibly stutters and drops frame once the subtitles are added. This was while playing a show that previous episodes (all encoded the same) had played fine with subtitles on.

Outside of that, the most noticable things are that it often takes 30 - 45 seconds for a video start (SMB share on local network, 100baseT from ATV to a gigabit hub, gigabit from there), and it can often take up to a minute for the "what your friends have watched / what you've watched / new additions / etc." screen to display.

I'm running the current release of Boxee on ATV 2.2 (with ATV updates disabled).

That seems slower than normal. I'd say Boxee on my AppleTV runs faster than that. The 'what you watched/friends watched' screen usually only takes a few seconds to load from my experiences anyway.
