I guess being a software engineer myself help me be more forgiving.
Something always go wrong in the last minute of a release...
I don't get the impression the box itself is all that complicated. However the box by itself doesn't do anything, either. It's always hooked up to some kind of network, some kind of TV/monitor/sound system, etc. It's also running an OS that has trouble with some of the video content out there because of poor support for Flash and non-existent support for Silverlight, two technologies used in a lot of web video. This begs the question why the Boxee team and D-Link chose this particular platform, but I guess cost is always the answer - commodity hardware and a free operating system keep the base costs down. But the price for the savings is a platform that can't handle certain kinds of video very well (yet).
