Default an option to turn off scraping?

I really like the option of having BB not going to IMDB each time to scrap my movies. It seems like if I add a local movie + its associated TBN file, BB should just recognize that and be done with it when I power on the device. Right now, it's like pulling teeth try to get BB to acknowledge new movie files that I've added to my server. I'm also a WDTV owner and with that, it was super easy to add new movies to my server. I just copy the movie along with the JPG for the thumbnail and WDTV will instantly recognize it when i power it on.

Does anyone know if I can achieve the same effect with the BB? I am really thinking of returning the BB if this is not possible.

Yea, Boxee isn't really setup to watch shows when you want to, at least not through the Movies and TV Shows view. To see video files immediately, you have to browse through the File view and select the source to view. It's not pretty, but it gets you watching your file before the night is over.

well, this seams like an oversight and a step in the wrong direction for BB. For a $200 device, it should give the user the ability to turn on/off scraping.

i've just created a bug on Jira. Please vote on this issue if this interests you.

There is also http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-7068 - Gettings the API opened back up so that the community devs can do some work to improve the experience.

If I had access to the database via the api, then I could just write a server side application that does instant library updates and could turn off this horrid scanner.

It just means using a webservice from sites like imdb or moviedb to get information and cover art for the movie files on your local server.
