Unhappy Just setting up, huge flicker

    Hi all,

I'm just setting the BB up for the first time and I'm getting a huge amount of flicker from all menus, so much so that it's barely readable. Streamed video seems to be okay.

I have managed to get into the settings and tried all the 1080 resolutions and checked the "match refresh rate" but the flicker is still there.

Any help would be most welcome.

    Cheers

    PP

    Welcome to Boxee!

What type of TV, brand, model.

    What type of connection? HDMI

Have you tried other resolution settings: 720p 1080p, 1080i, etc.

Did you upgrade the box when you turned it on?

    Wow that's a fast reply

TV is an LG 37LH3010 and the connection is HDMI. It's a 1080 tv but I'll try the other resolutions just in case and yes, the BB upgraded when it was first plugged in.

EDIT: The box just switched to screensaver and there is no flicker there

All resolutions have the flicker, tried a spare HDMI cable also with no change.

I would say you got a defective box. Return it and get a new one and you should be good to go.

It's probably a good idea to test it on another display (any other display with an HDMI interface) before deciding that it's defective.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's some sort of refresh rate sync issue.

First thing I would check is all of the settings in the menus of the display device itself. If it's a 120hz (or higher) display, try disabling or lowering the amount of "smoothing" it does. Try different picture settings, etc.

If you don't have another display to try it on or that of a friend or family member, try doing a factory reset on the Boxee Box just in case some random setting got stuck. Then you might try updating to the new firmware manually (downloading it to a USB stick and updating from that).

The BB menus flicker on other screens as well.

I've raised a ticket but I think it maybe a defective unit, most annoying.

It's a defective unit. One of my defective open Box Boxee Boxes does the same thing. The settings, TV, HDMI cable, resolution all make zero difference. I tried them all between four TVs. All had the same issue.
