Thread: Wifi remote app with non-wifi computer

Default Wifi remote app with non-wifi computer

So I have boxee set up on my win7 pc, which is fed the internet through an ethernet cable from my router. I also have the boxee android app running on my home wifi network from the same router. Is there anyway to get a wifi remote to work with boxee while not on the same wifi network? I don't really want to switch my pc over to wifi just to use this remote.

This may be a question for the app developers, but I am looking for a solution that may not include that app. Anyone have a good remote system for a similar situation?

If you only have one router, and it supplies internet access for all your wired AND wi-fi devices, then they are almost certainly already all on the same network. Wired vs wi-fi is just 2 different transport mediums. copper wire vs RF signals. They are still both on the same local network from an IP address standpoint. IOW, any device you have using wi-fi should be able to "see" any device on your wired network and visa versa.

This is the exact setup that I use with my Boxee machine and have no issues with it. I use the wi-fi remote through my iPod Touch & widget from my Macbook. Have had no issues connecting, the iPod is automatic, the Macbook I just had to put in my Boxee Machine's IP address.

Yeah, the WiFi remote is really a network remote. As long as the machine is reachable, it's fine.
