Default MCE Remote - Unable to customise or create custom lirc config

I've been trying to configure an MCE remote for almost 2 days. I'm running ubuntu 10.10 and I've got an AIM RC118. I got this because I read somewhere it would work straight away, which it almost does.

I'm not after customising it a lot, but in its current state, the back button doesn't work and no other buttons have the same functionality so it makes navigating quite difficult.

I started by trying to configure Boxee to use the back button but any changes I made to the lirc configuration, made any difference.

I then tried installing lirc separately to create a custom configuration but I failed miserably. lsusb hangs and when I start lirc, /dev/lirc0 isn't created, I assume the two problems are linked, but it stops me from running irrecord. I just get "could not get file information for /dev/lirc0".

I've not seen much information about the remote I've bought on this forum, but I've seen some success stories and mentions on the xbmc forum.

If anyone could point me in the right direction or give any tips, that'd be great. Cheers!

Problem solved. Quite annoying that I spent almost 3 days trying to sort it when it was quite simply caused by the cheap USB extender that comes with it.

So for anyone that buys this remote, I do recommend it, works very well and plug-and-play. But make sure you buy yourselves a better USB extender for the receiver.
