Cool Why would you use Netflix or HULU

I have owned my Boxee for a week and am happily streaming my tv and movies from my PC. 720p Tv shows stream beautifully over my network and I am surprised at what an improvement in picture and sound the boxee is over my previous WDTV. 1080p movies I use my usb and I have had no lag, stuttering or audio drops.

When I look at this forum and see online reviews of the boxee I see all this discussion over how Netflix or Hulu does or doesn't work. I can't see any reason why you would even want to use these sites. There are dozens of private torrent sites to use for free and use RSS with to have all your tv right in one folder to watch. If your paying for these services you might as well be burning money. If your not paying then you obviously don't have a problem with copyright. (I don't) .

I am sure this has been mentioned before but after a week of looking through the forum I was surprised.

If only I could get the boxee to play my music files in random order ...
    oh well

Uh, because the official sites provide legal access to copyrighted material and the other approach does not?

Ultimately, for mainstream users, torrenting is NOT the answer.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest he was being sarcastic.

Might just be me then. I read that to be a "if you don't give us NetFlix, etc ASAP then your going to turn us all into illegal file-sharers". It was his supposed admission that he had no problem violating copyright that threw up the old "troll" flag for me. Maybe I'm just jaded

It is kind of weird that for example with Hulu they do seem to be throwing up pointless barriers to legal access that don't really do anything to stop illegal downloading (which isn't possible with the way it used to work with Boxee anyway) while ultimately just encouraging more people to say "the hell with the hassle" and just go the easier illegal way. It so much easier to just get the illegal version of the same content, why throw so many barriers to just accessing it the legal way with commercials? You stop ad revenue you would get normally and encourage people to pirate by default.

The reason for me is the instant play (you do not need to search, find, etc..) backed up with variety of titles that I never heard before. I have been using netflix since the day they offered streaming, time to time canceled my subscription but always returned back.

And the copyright issue of course.. you may not have a problem with it, but the concern is they might have a problem with you. In United States, deep pocket inspection , as far as I know, is legal and being done by ISPs upon requests that come from proper channels. A friend's friend recently sued by C****bia Pictures for downloading some stuff that he shouldn't. He accepted his illegal actions in court and as for his case, as this offense being his first , he got a 30 day internet ban and also paid smtg I do not know.
