Default Please don't forget the music

After reading several posts i'm sure that this topic is already in many peoples agenda.

Alltough boxee is very movies and tv oriented please consider a priority the music and also local playing capabilities

It would be great to know when the music queue and playlist functionalities will be delivered

I've got my bbox and many of my friends qould be interested on buying one but without more music functionalities i'm affraid that the big extra value of boxee to become your ONE multimedia device is at risk

i hope bbox is selling as expected and with this maybe extra motivation comes to enable faster more music functionality soon.

You can count on me to make good marketing boxee box with my friends, my blog followers, etc.

Im guessing sometime next year the music and photos will be updated. As its been said many many many times Music and Photos took a backseat to push the video out. Boxee will be working on the Music and Phots experience, but its been put on the backburner until they can get most of the video bugs out of the way.

What's odd is the .09 version had much better options. In 1.0 they stripped out all the features....what kind kind of logic is that. I was having an issue with the Netflix via PlayOn with the last update. I thought I'd try a factory restore, then before updating I tried out a bunch of stuff in .09

What I found was quite puzzling.

I tried several "Shows" that I've streamed in 1.0, all of them I have to do the mouse click to full screen scenario. To my surprise auto full screen worked on almost every show I tried. To confirm, I tried the same shows after I re-applied the latest firmware and the shows don't auto full screen.

I actually don't mind the 1.0 interface, but it completely baffles me how you would change the UI only to break features, functionality that was working in your .09 firmware. It makes bad business sense and alienates your built-in user base.

Here is a screen capture of the music interface prior to updating to the latest version. You can see that in .09 they give you six useful options.
The new UI doesn't simplify this section, it breaks it and gives you nothing. I don't get it??

Another thing I tested prior to applying the latest 1.0 firmware was files that would not play properly in version 1.0. All my MakeMKV DVD rips play without issue in .09. The first 1.0 versions I had issues with juttering video.
Some AVI files that were problematic in 1.0 played fine in .09. Again from a coding aspect why or how would you break something that worked in you original release only to have it fail in your updated release.

Boxee could have avoided a lot of headaches had they gradually rolled out the 1.0 UI and tested it with select AV enthusiasts to put it through the ringer.

I don't think they had a choice in the change of UI.

I think they were pushed into it by an outbreak of corporate conservatism on the part of Boxee or one of their relevant partners (IHV ie. D-Link, or media suppliers), and/or the late switch of baseline hardware specs for the BBox.

There's very little else that makes sense.

Default i just dont get it

    I completely agree with canuckle

If i wasn't happy with the few music capabilities it had before, now i am just angry because they took it out

I was a xbmc fan and i decided to change and support the boxee iniciative buying the boxee box and i miss a lot those music functionalities

It would be cool if the sales of the boxee box can help the developers get some extra hands to support the growing needs

I have faith in these guys because something that started as an open source initiative now it's competing with big companies. And beleive we will soport this cause by suggesting boxee to our friends. I just would appreciate to know when will this be accomplished

Anyone got any working method for getting music onto the Boxee Box through other means than the Box's own player? Here, any upnp stream comes up in alphabetical order of track name, not by track number, and PS3 Media Server seems to need some kind of custom setup to work (and might also give wrong results anyway).

I tried some software which claimed to be able to 'push' audio to a virtual file which could be opened on the Box but all that did was to make a rather unpleasant screech.

    Any ideas, anyone?

My plan was to replace my custom laptop running Xbmc with Boxee box.. but well, the current music functionality is very limited indeed. In fact.. I think the box will be collecting dust until the music player gets at least the basic feature set. Not selling it cause I really do like most of the stuff but the music side of things needs an update soon!

Um.. can't I even search my own music collection or am I blind?!

    Thumbs up vote

If you haven't please vote in the jira site to enforce the prioritization of the music player enhancements

    http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-7005

If needed create a user in jira so you actually can vote

I think it's very important this to make them notice how important music is for us and also how much we miss our music library functions

My fear is the Boxee Box hardware is just not up to the task and thats why they stripped the music features off...

    Perhaps
    lack of ram or nand?
    lack of raw cpu power?

It may have been better if more of the unit cost went into the hardware inside rather than making it an odd shape...

    Automan.
