    Default Wierd Video Issue

I hope someone can help me. I have been ripping my DVD collection to MPG format for the past 5 years. I have used the the DSM-510, the WDTV and the HP MediaConnect to play these files through my TV's. All of my files have worked on these devices.

I have purchased the Boxee Box and when I play my videos most of them work. There are a few however that don't. When I try to play them all I get is some 3 dimensional grid and no audio. I can see the video timer counting down to 300 minutes.

Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a reason for it?

Probably 1 of every 15 files does this - I do have over 1500 files though so this means that I have a lot that don't work. All files were identically created so I'm stumped as to why this is happening. I have tried recreating the files with no luck and they do work on the other streamers.

I am using a wired network...

    Thanks for any advice...

Use MediaInfo to scan these files on your computer and then cut and paste the output it give you here.

But really, there's absolutely no reason to still be using MPEG1/2 to back up your DVDs in this day and age. You'll get FAR better quality and performance by using AVC or even XViD.

I've written and handy guide for accomplishing exactly this available here.

Thanks! I will try this first and if the quality is as good as the MPG then I will convert my files to these formats instead...

Don't forget to post the MediaInfo data for those .MPG files and perhaps a sample if you're up for it.

If there is a problem with playback of these older formats, I still think the Boxee team would like to know about it.
