Cool Lets all guess on when we'll see Netflix on the Boxee Box

Officially its "We're planning to bring Netflix to the Boxee Box before the end of the year."

Its starting to get close, 17 more days to go till the end of the year, 10 days if you assume the dev team will be off Christmas till New Years.

Will they make the 12/31/2010 deadline? Will we see Netflix on Boxee Box before Christmas?

January 1 (if we are lucky). My vote is NEVER. Take the money and run!
They have missed every other target date, what makes you think they will meet this one?
They should have concentrated on getting Netflix and/or Hulu Plus and Vudu
more than ANY OTHER FIX OR ISSUE, IMHO, only because of the time of year it is.
Sales FIRST, when it comes to the Christmas season. The more successful they are SELLING the product, the better supported it will be down the road.
Wonder how many people DIDN'T buy this as a present for someone, when they were told "No, it doesn't have Netflix, etc. yet", but "Is supposed to support it later?" Do you think I WOULD BUY THAT LINE FROM A Best Buy Sales guy, and risk $200 on a gift, or simply choose a competing product?

Grumps. Isn't the issue still licensing, not technical? Its not like it physically can't do it. Its that it doesn't do it in a way Netflix wants it to do it.

Boxee doesn't get any money from Boxee Box sales.

I don't think this would have been wise; a big part of getting this premium content has a lot to do with contractual agreements and app development (vs core Boxee code that's being fixed). I think they have the staff to cover these three activities fine...

I have no proof of this, but my guess is netflix needed to see the device before it promised anything. Netflix also usually creates its own apps in conjustion with the main developers. My guess is they were not allowed to start developing until very shortly before the release. Avner said the update in a week or two contains bug fixes and app updates. He didnt say what apps but it isnt unreasonable to think said apps are vudo/netflix.

Default It will get here on the

I have 5 days to decide on an RMA and I've got to tell you, I have been so tempted to hit the return......I watched an advertisement on revision 3/ tekzilla, where you could tell that the guy(robert) reading from the cards was uncomfortable glossing over what it doesn't do.....I feel ripped off.....If it doesn't happen this week its RMA and I'll Roku out of spite....

I can guarantee you it isnt a "rip off" as all of the issues will be getting addressed. A rip off is when a guy sells something and then you never hear them again. The Boxee team is commited to fixing the errors and bringing all the content they can get. they have a website:

    http://jira.boxee.tv

Where you can see the hundreds of bugs they have and havent fixed. Avner Ronen is the CEO, ive been a Boxee fan for years. He treats this as his baby. He is the most passionate CEO I have ever seen. When he says something, it isnt just a dollar amount or as if it meant. If he puts something out there and it doesnt work. it truly pisses him off. I do believe netflix will be out within a couple. Probably not 5 days but should be before the end of the year. If not it WILL be out within the first couple weeks of january.

However, by all means I encourage you to do what you want. Roku is a solid option but keep in mind you cant watch local programming. Good luck!

Yeah because everyone wants Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Vudu?

Remember, they're trying their best to cater everyone.
