Thread: Slight slowdown on video

    Default Slight slowdown on video

I have noticed on a few films the current being a 720p MKV that I get a little slowdown now and again, i'm running a wired network to a D-link DNS 320.

It lasts for a second and then its back to normal, really quick. Looking in the debug mode the cpu is around 30%.

The boxee is on the latest firmware

    File size : 5.69 GiB
    Overall bit rate : 6 899 Kbps
    Format : AVC
    Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
    Format profile : High@L4.1

I have also noticed that when I have the boxee to match the refresh rate of the video it takes two or three seconds on load to switch, the screen goes black about 3 times. Then if I look at the video info it does this again to show that and again on exit back to the video.

I am assuming that the slowdown is the boxee dropping frames,

    My setup

    Netgear WNDR3700 > DNS 320 > Boxee Box

My Router is Gigabit and I can copy files to the DNS 320 at around 24MB/s (192mb/s) I have also tried a few test files, I have streamed a 20 second 60mb/s stream to the Boxee and that plays fine.

Is it safe to assume that this setup would be able to play just about anything thrown at it with regards to video and any problems I run into are just bugs at the moment.

I have a file with DTS MA that I wanted to try but it keeps telling me it can't initilize the audio, i did get it to work once however it had dropouts every five minutes or so.

Hi and thanks for the reply,

I have a Denon 1910 amp that has HDMI as well as both DTS MA and Dolby True HD, all my Blurays play fine on my PS3 with either formats. I have the slim PS3 that can do either Bitstream or PCM.

I haven't had any edid issues before and I have all the relevant options ticked on the boxee.

I tried the file again after looking at your reply and it did not work so I shut the boxee box down, once it booted back up I went straight to the movie and pressed play. The blue DTS MA light on my amp lit up and then the file played with sound.

I played it again straight away and again it worked.....however I then put an MKV rip on for a few seconds which happened to have normal DTS audio, then tried to play the DTS MA movie and the sound failed to initialize again.

I have switched the boxee on today and tried the DTS MA file and it worked, I have also switched to another movie I put on my NAS last night at that works as well which is also DTS MA.

I'm no sure what is happening when it comes up with failed to initiate audio, I can't seem to replicate it this morning and nothing has changed.

Only thing I can think I was doing is forcing re-scans of files, will keep my eye on it
