Default HOW TO: Share an HFS+ drive on Boxee Box

Here's a little tutorial to help people with OS X and external HFS+ drives add them as USB drives to Boxee Box and share them:

    - Plug drive into Mac
    - Open Disk Utility
    - Select the drive, hold Alt (Option) key and press File
    - Select Disable Journaling
    - Open Finger, right click on the drive and select Get Info
    - Make sure Everyone is added and select Read and Write for their rights
    - Click the golden lock and authenticate
    - Click the little setting button by the Minus on the bottom and select "Apply to enclosed items"
    - Eject the drive and plug it into the Boxee Box
    - On the Boxee Box, under Network Settings / Servers
    - Select "Enable Windows Sharing"
    - Leave no password and user is guest
    - Make sure you know the servername "boxeebox" is default
    - On the Mac you should now see boxeebox under "shared" in Finder
    - If you don't see it, open Finder, press Command + K and enter "smb://boxeebox" without quotes
    - Select Guest account and select the partition that you want to connect to.

Job Done. Hope it works for you

    Hi,

I was able to get my HFS+ usb drive working via the BB's smb share option using the info provided, but even though I can now read and write files/folders, I'm not able to remove files or folders using the mac's 'Move to Trash' option from Finder.

    Any ideas?

press cmd + delete on the files you want to delete and see what happens... they don't get moved to trash.. they are erased directly .. trash is for local files only

Thanks, should have a thought of that.

BTW it's option key + delete that works for this method, not sure if it's changed in SL or not.

    Cheers again.

it's command + delete... the key left / right of space + the delete key... dunno what you're using but i'm quite sure it's not alt / option

Carefully submit the exact steps to duplicate it so the devs can track down the root cause and fix it. Pointing to this thread wouldn't hurt either

They talk about it also here :

Does anyone get an error when trying to disable journaling on their HFS+ formatted hard drive using the Disk Utility? I get an error stating "Journaling could not be disabled on the volume 'Media'". I've been searching the Apple Support forums as well but have yet to find a solution. Any ideas?

    I'm running a Core 2 Duo Macbook with 10.6.5.
