Apple's 720p decision was likely a matter of user experience - smaller payloads make less wait time/less likelihood of buffering/less stuttering & makes a happier user - that and most people can't even really see much of a difference between the two.

That said, back to the 'topic', I agree about the .9 ui, much better and friendlier really, clutter or no.

    Default New to Boxee box

I've just purchased the Boxee box, and managed to avoid the earlier firmware and only used the new firmware. I was purchased the box with some trepidation, was prepared for a poor experience, and would consider returning the box in event it did not perform as advertised....

The experience has exceeded my expectations by miles, the box does exactly what it says, it plays back all my content (no other media player would come close), it makes access to local and online content accessible to my non-techie other half, the user interface is simple let comprehensive, the hardware delivers frame perfect movie playback. In short I love it!

The company, and the dev team have responded superbly to the initial challenges and disappointed users, they have communicated fully, and openly and delivered two firmware updates in just over a month. I think they should be commended. I am happy to keep the box and support this type of company with my custom, and future purchases.

Just thought it should be said.

    Thank you Boxee.

I am sorry to say this, but you don't need the Boxee Box do this.
You could have saved a LOT of money by using several of the other media players currently available on the market if you just wanted to play, and make
    your large library easily accessible.
    Just my opinion.

While that may be something you can think of in your geographical area its a pipe dream to many of us around the world. These sites are simply not open to us and even if they were our net quality is hit and miss.

Boxee is being sold globally.. And that means you need a global mindset and user experience.. Cluttering a box with many icons for content that we cannot stream, simply makes many parts of the box look broken. People need to stop thinking with a purely n American mindset if they sell a product around the world.

Yes it is a complex cake they are baking.. and Boxee appear to be doing a good job of trying to solve this, but ultimately the way to make it look right and work for the user is to allow the user to turn on and off things they dont want. Giving me icons for broken stuff makes the user experience broken, not giving you icons for stuff you can access limits the boxes appeal to you. Hence user customization is the solution.

Like I said before if you JUST want to play local stuff you can do that MUCH cheaper with several of the other media players currently available on the market!

What media player does this, yet does it with a slick UI with cover art, meta data, etc.. Including wifi N for HD Streaming and a NAS to host files on my network ??

Man, do you ever get tired of repeating yourself. You must have some serious patience as I would have lost it some time ago. There should be a large red banner at the top of the forum telling everyone they have to read the bug log before posting, that would do away with half the posts at least.

The only one I can find that might even be remotely related is this one: http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-6759

Submitting it as a bug is a good way to get the issue noticed and hopefully resolved.
it's actually a common issue. If you search rmvb on this forum. There are several complaints already. I wish I found this forum before I made the purchase. I am hoping it gets fixed before my deadline is up for return.

This isn't a developer community, you are expecting far too much if you think the average user is going to read through a bug log before posting about an issue. I mean this isn't a beta it's a retail product.
