    Default Boxee color issues

I just installed BOXEE on Ubuntu 10.10 64bit. Everything seems to be working fine except for the color on movies and some apps. The colors are mostly black and white but sometimes turns all red or blue. The movies i am trying to play are 7.4GB ISO files. Any help would be great.

I have the same issue when I switched to an ATI card using the binary blob. I have not been able to get the open source drivers to use hardware acceleration so I have been unable to test with those.

Try editing your ~/.boxee/userdata/guisettings.xml to change the render setting:

Open the file in a text editor after closing Boxee, and look for the line
    Code:
    <rendermethod>3</rendermethod>
and change the number to "1"
    <rendermethod>1</rendermethod>
    save and restart Boxee

This is happening to me also, Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit on an AMD64 with ATI Radeon HD4200.
Playback of mkv videos is black & white but when I play the same file using VLC, there is no problem.
Tried video card drivers from Ubuntu and from ATI but still no success. I've read somewhere that this could be an issue with the Flash player but not sure how this should be related.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread.

    Default Thank You!

    Hi,

I have been scouring the net for ages for this!

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit and had this issue. All other programs (including Firefox) played video fine (I was initially missing libdvdcss2) but Boxee had this issue. My render method was actually set to 0 rather than 3 but setting to 1 solved the issue.

    Cheers,
    Mac

Default Solution works but MKVs stutter

Am I right in thinking this just turns on software rendering? I had the same problem on a box with Ubuntu 10.10 x86-64 on Sempron with ATI HD4350 video and the solution works but only for SD. The CPU doesn't have enough power to software render 720p MKVs. The same machine, with hardware rendering enabled, works fine with XBMC 10.1 without the colour issue.

I'm running 1.5 on Ubuntu 11.10 and oddly, I tried setting the rendermethod to 3 and it works for me. Not sure what this magic setting is doing, but that cleared things up in terms of color. The aspect ratio is off, so now trying to fix that...

Installed boxee today on 11.10 ubuntu.

Everything is running good except this strange color issue.

Setting rendermethod to 3 "solves" it, but aspect ratio is bad.

Is there already some solution to this?
