Default 298 Network Shows For Canadian Boxee Users!

I am really impressed with the glut of stuff that has become available in the last month.

Here are the total "Network" shows available from the big cable broadcasters in Canada. I'm including only the following.

    298 Shows!

    • Global
    • CTV
    • CityTV
    • CBC
    • SpikeTV
    • TVTropolis
    • HGTV
    • Slice
    • History
    • Comedy Network
    • Showcase
    • Space

    Display setting at 1080p 24hz

Improvements I've noticed in the past week. Looks like the networks are getting on board.

CTV - commercials & shows play seamless without the black screen of doom. Still needs the initial mouse click to go full screen, fast movement results in some minor screen jutter.
You can see the CTV logo in the corner during both, so it looks like they've merged the adverts and the shows. Tested Conan & Flashpoint.
    Quality is good.

CityTV - Quality on a few shows I checked out seems much better. Tested Community and How I Met Your Mother - Adverts and show have no interaction problems

Comedy Network - Daily Show, Colbert Show now in 16x9 and very good quality! Sarah Silverman, now in 16x9 - quality is a bit better, but kind of washed out, same South Park now in 16x9

I feel for you guys in the States as it seems from the posts on here lately it's slim pickins for the popular US shows, and we seem to have almost everything.

I think there is almost every big US TV show available here. Oddly no Simpsons even though it's on Global. Family Guy, American Dad, Cleveland Show are all available though.

There are some issues, where you sometimes have to wait a week later for the show to be available. Conan seems to be updated daily Also you might only get episodes for some shows just from this season, whereas other shows you might see two full seasons such as the case with the Sarah Silverman Show.

I have to say I'm really impressed. We went from a few shows to 300 in 6 weeks in Canada.

Now please just get Hockey Night In Canada

Just don't put all your hope in this since you never know when it'll just "go away" hence why I still download my shows vs streaming... 720p w/o ads

    HGTV doesn't play for me..
    I tried Property Virgins.
I get black screen and play clicking the play button doesn't do anything.

    and Yes.. I'm in Canada.

UPDATE : Problem solved.. I had doubleclick.net blocked on my router to reduce ad pop-ups. While this was blocked the videos never played. Unblocking this site solved my problem.

Between this and Netflix I am just about ready to cut the cable and sell the Tivo.

I don't think it's a cable cutter yet.... I mean if you want local news and such or some live sports or just browse through the channels from time to time :P but yeah by the time I move out i'll never get cable or a home phone

I think it depends on your location. If you're in a major city, you can probably already get HD OTA on all your local network affiliates (except CBC, who seem to be foot dragging). And if you're in the Golden Horseshoe area of southern Ontario, you can also get a good selection of US stations OTA from across the lake. I have the cheapest of the cheapest rabbit ears sitting upstairs in my house and they pick up every HD OTA signal that's available here. 5/5 bars, perfect picture. Between Boxee and OTA digital, I was quite happy to call up the cable company and inform them that their TV services were No Longer Required.
or just browse through the channels from time to time :P
Yeah, I hear you. That's a hard habit to break. Navi-X and Justin.TV are moderately acceptable substitutes for the moment.

Can anyone play anything from YTV? Literally every show from there I tried tonight produced a still image for something to do with Shrek and that was it.
