This problem occurred to me after the latest upgrade. Beforehand I could just watch a movie, like it should do, but after this update it detachs itself every 5-10 minutes. After 30 seconds it reattaches and after 3 buttonpushes I'm back where I left off. very very annoying. It happens with several hdd ( usb-powered or not) and all of my usb-stick drives, varieing from 2Gbto 16Gb.
Please give us an update to repair this asap!... I've got a crippled boxee box now.

Last firmware upgrade and I am still getting those annoying messages ..
    What to do ?
Any1 else still having this problem ?
Have tried everything so far .. Must be a firmware issue ? Hope its not some kind of bad usb connectors used in some boxes.

Hi, I'm too have the same problem. It's really annoying.

But what i found is that the problem only exist if I attached external usb drive to the USB 2.

I dont find any issue if using the UBS 1 only.

    Is this hardware/ firmware defect?

One more with the same problem. Bought an WD 1TB 'Essentials' hard drive without external power supply. My hard drive gets detached often! Really annoying and not acceptable.

    Default Me too.

I have a Drobo and a small portable WD drive. At first just the Drobo was attached, and it would disconnect/reconnect at random. Now that the WD is attached there are twice as many messages. I hope to set up a NAS eventually, but for now this is a real pain.

The USB cable may in fact have something to do with it. I replaced the one for the Drobo and the disconnect messages became about half as frequent and I was able to watch a complete movie with no dropouts. I'm going to replace the USB cable to the other drive and see if that solves it.

Perhaps Boxee is just very picky about USB cables…

Default USB devices get disconnected and fem minutes later connected.

I have had this problem for many months, before and after the latest firmware upgrade of the Boxee Box now in the end of 2011.
The problem happens on both USB slots and for any devises I use. i.e. I have problem with an Seagate externally powered 1 Tbyte disk, another similar 250G disk and 16, 8, 2 Gbyte USB memory pins.
If I watch video from the internet, then this pop-up just shows that the devise is disconnected, and few minutes later that it is connected.
If I watch video form a file on the USB device, the movie gets halted, and I have to physically unplug and re-plug the USB, and restart the movie again.
Today this happened several times, so I gave up the movie on the USB device. Yesterday it was no problem. I.e. the problem comes and goes.
I have done a factory restore of the Boxee Box and then upgrade to latest firmware again, but it did not help.
It seems to be a HW fault on the box. Anyone that have done a HW repair to get this problem fixed?

I am having the same problem, did the factory restore, latest firmware but still doing it. I still think it is not a HW fault as it's seems a pretty common issue and it is so annoying there's no proper fix yet. If I cannot fix it I am gonna have to return the box.

I have more or less the same problem. The first week I got my boxee it just did not connect. I had to unconnect the External HDD USB and then reconnect and Boxee then picked it up.

Then it suddenly picked it up from boot one day. It worked absolutely fine for about 5 weeks.

Then 2 days ago it has started happenning again. Absolutely infuriating. I have changed nothing and not even touched my external hard drive for about a month. It works fine on every other PC etc therefore MUST be a boxee problem.

    Seagate GOFlex 2TB External. NTFS.
