Great Idea. Or our favorites. Anything that we have control over. We paid for this box. We should be able to set our home page as we wish.

I agree not everyone Want online content ! And for the price we should be able to choose !
Other then that for such a recent product not even a month yet the updates are really really good and they communicate to us great ! No many company does that ! And wd force you to buy another product to get updates so at the end it doesn't work out that cheap ! Boxee team need feedback and motivation not bullshit I would like to see all the complainers in there shoose !

Default Will photos and music be added back to the top level UI?

And you still get artists pix / album cover art just like before -- a lot of people don't seem to realize this.
I realize photos and music are still fully accessible, I realize how to get to them and the extra clicks required, and I realize that the artists pix / album cover art is provided.

For me, photos and music not being at the top level is a big deal. For me, the extra clicks required are a big deal.

As a software development program manager, I get that the Boxee team has a list of requests and they must prioritize those requests to meet the needs of the broader user community and I don't begrudge them for it. My user community is my family and unfortunately, for now, the current UI doesn't meet our user requirements and I don't have the time nor the inclination to build my own Boxee.

So my question remains... Hopefully an answer will be forthcoming. If the answer is no, I will simply return my Boxee prior to the Amazon Jan 31 deadline, wish the Boxee team the absolute best and much success, and find another product that is a better fit for my family's needs.

In any case, I urge everyone to continue the scorn and derision that we have shown thus far with the actual Box and the management decisions surrounding it. It's that feedback that gets Boxee motivated to make changes to our liking. Anyway, the whole local scraping and slow thumbnail loading issue needs to be resolved, as well as home page customization -- I'm not paying $200 to have the home page be a platform for ad content (or "featured content" as Boxee likes to call it) pushed down my throat in the future. WD Live doesn't have to stoop to these lows and they include a 1 TB drive for that price in their latest iteration.

When's the last time you bought something that has issues and had changes that actually came from the user community fixed in such short notice? This is the second firmware update in less than 6 weeks and each one fixes issues that were noted from the user community.

Yes, I agree it should have been right from the beginning but what was not free is no longer and there are going to be changes because it has to make a profit.

It's still best of breed for cost and feature set on the market. Go by a ROKU or WD Box and complain and see how fast any of your complaints get heard or responded to. They are both a piece of crap compared to the Boxee even in it's current state.

Excellent news, I'd like to chime in about making the music option more functional as well.

    • scrape local images or at least get correct CD images
    • Play All and play all with shuffle
    • Playlists

I have a friend who is really interested in getting Boxee Box, but the music portion is a deal breaker for lack of features.

I actually bought the Boxee Box to get rid of clutter in the living room. I think it is short sighted for the Boxee Team to not realize that is a lot of peoples rationale.

I bought it for these reasons:

    • Play local content primarily
    • Online content - for shows I've missed or are on late
    • A music hub for myself and the wife
    • Browse family photos
    • Netflix
    • Wealth of apps

I would venture to say, this is the same motivation a lot of other people had when choosing to buy the Boxee Box.

That being said, I am duly impressed at the speed of the updates, the interaction between developers here and over at http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1286552 is highly impressive and refreshing in this day and age.

Once the music app is more polished and Netflix is added, I'll be a happy camper.

Too bad I sent mine back yesterday.
I might just buy it again in a few months when all the small bugs are history

Though I totally applaud the Boxee team for its efforts I really wonder if the BB will ever properly handle local media libraries? These changes are Boxee's best efforts to quickly address a major UI issue. Unfortunately, I do not think a quick fix is going to do it. The UI needs to be redesigned from the ground up with local content in mind if they really want to have an interface that make its product at least on par with other options. Believe me, I am not a Boxee basher. I really want to like the BB but I am beginning to have my doubts if it will ever be able to manage and display local content in a way that the average user will find pleasing.
