    Thumbs down Pathetic!

I'm thinking that Boxee needs to run changes through D-Link first and that the buck doesn't stop with Avner. In any case, I urge everyone to continue the scorn and derision that we have shown thus far with the actual Box and the management decisions surrounding it. It's that feedback that gets Boxee motivated to make changes to our liking.
The level of immaturity in these forums (on the part of some, I hasten to add) is nothing short of staggering. How self-involved must one be to consider every little unfulfilled wish list item a personal affront and a fatal flaw in the Boxee Box? Do you (and your ilk) truly believe that your every desire is shared by the vast majority of the consumer market who until now may not even have been aware that they could enjoy local and Internet content on their TV and would be blown away by a short demo of even the most basic Boxee Box features? ... or are you just crying and stamping your feet like a petulant child? You want scorn and derision? Well, you've got mine! [As far as the "5 hour coding job", I doubt you could get Hello World out in that timeframe, assuming there's any correlation between coding ability and maturity].

The majority of the consumer market can't even copy and paste of their home PC. The Boxee box is not for the general consumer although that maybe be whom D-Link and Boxee would like to target.

The Boxee was built and used by those who are computer and internet savy. Those that have generally been ripping DVD content, downloading it etc... and understand exactly what they want from Boxee because they've been using it for years and have been using the Beta that is before it was pulled out of the lineup at the last minute.

    Nice one Jacques.

I don't mind if people come here to complain or to state their opinion, but if they're acting like a child, they do not deserve respect.

If I purchased two Boxee without no estimate cost but an extact of $200 each is because I see the not a potential of the product am investing in because it's already the best product out there, but because of the potential of an overall company with its programers/engineers/marketing&sales department to redender number one customer/members satisfaction. To have a great Boxee team give a release date of the next upgrade firmware is only professional and therefore expected. Perhaps once you are in the real world you will understand code and testing is not just code and testing but involves timelines and a great team to make it happend for the overall company's investments that is you and I.

Follow the Jira log and you'll see they keep adding fixes to SP2. Maybe that's why it's taking longer. They said by the end of this week... and it's getting close but not quite there yet. Some people did get the early SP2 build and it had some bugs... you probably would've been quite happy to receive that buggy build and complain some more how Boxee sucks... Name me a company which puts a date on a calendar when a patch will be released.. other than an estimate... an EXACT DATE... name me one

I live in Norway and as of today we don't have Roku, Netflix, Hulu etc. Despite the lack of these services the Boxee Boxes are SELLING OUT all over the country.

So if the Boxee Box isn't good enough for you then sell it to someone else or worst case return it to the store. There's plenty of people out there who want one badly.

Consider the fact that Boxee is a fairly young company with fewer employees than Apple or Microsoft.. I don't know about Roku. The Boxee Team seem to be genuinely dedicated to delivering a quality product to their users. As with all new products they won't really achieve their full potential straight away at launch.

Remember the PS3, the XBOX360 and even the DS? None of those had killer apps/games when they were launched! People supported these platforms and they became great in their own respect.

I've used lots of open source and closed source software over the years, some mature faster than others... I've tried countless media center solutions and none have come CLOSE to Boxee. Now if they want to change their UI then I trust that they know what they're doing and any issues will be ironed out in this transitional phase. So take into consideration the size of Team Boxee and all of these requests they have to take into consideration. There just isn't enough hours in the day for them to do all that and actually have a life outside work!

The fact they don't get paid for Boxee other than money from venture capital should also tell you how dedicated they are. According to an early interview with Engadget they don't get ANY money for the D-Links Boxee Boxes ( http://video.aol.com/aolvideo/engadg...mo/69211086001 seek to ca. 5:05 )

Add the fact that they're also trying to secure deals with content providors... I would say they're doing really well! My hat goes off to Boxee

Couldn't disagree more! My point was exactly that there is nothing about the Boxee Box that puts it beyond the understanding and abilities of the general consumer once he is made aware of its existence (which is where we pioneers come in). Most will buy it (again once they've been exposed to it) for just a few of its features -- for some it may simply be the ability to plug in their camera's SD card and watch a slide show with some Pandora music in the background (people have paid more than $200 in some cases for some lame 12-inch "digital picture frame", no?), for others it may be browsing YouTube or other online feeds (especially when they start getting recommendations from friends, children, grandchildren, ...), for others still it may be the coming subscription or Pay-Per-View video services, etc. Some may graduate to ripping their DVD collections for convenient access etc ... but even then they certainly won't be "horrified" by their (current) inability to apply their own box art as some of the anal-retentives to whom I was addressing my comments appear to be.

True, but the same could have been said of the early home computers, yet Apple (for example) managed to sell the Apple II into the mass market despite not including every dream feature of the homebrew crowd (had there been an Apple II forum, I can only imagine the "outrage" that would have poured forth regarding the omission of an assembler, or of an oscilloscope interface, or of a blank expansion card for wiring up one's own circuits ...

The fusion of the family TV and of local & Internet media is inevitable and will of course eventually be built into the TVs themselves, and I think Boxee is entitled to take their best shot at becoming a major provider of the user interface that will drive this market. The fact that some of the more arcane features are (for now) taking a back seat to simplification and "stabilization" means that Boxee is made up of adults who understand what their priorities must be if they're ever going to become a going concern. And if that includes making some compromises to pacify and, god forbid, compensate the content providers without whom none of this would make any sense, then so be it.

Finally, I want to be clear that none of my comments apply to feature suggestions, nor to polite feature requests, but I draw the line at feature demands! That persistent strain of posts bringing up the dreaded Amazon RMA deadline and the fate that will befall Boxee if some feature or other doesn't make its appearance before then would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic.

    Later,

    Jacques.

I think halo was a pretty good launch title but anyways I agree too. This company is really just starting as a mainstream company at least give them a month. I really do like that the developers are on here and avs trying to help

    +1

I am a fellow Norwegian and now own two of the boxee box.
The only thing I don't like about the Boxee box is that its too focused on the internet content and not on the local.

The price could be cheaper as well. I paid 660 USD for two Boxee Box'es

I played the full episodes wirelessly without any problems. Great quality too. Are you sure there's nothing slowing down your connection?
