Default Upcoming minor (but important) UI Changes

The next build of the Boxee Box firmware will include some UI changes that are intended to make it easier to navigate to your content on Boxee.

We are adding a screen in the initial login that will ask the user how he is going to use Boxee, for local file playback or Internet streaming. The selection will set the default behavior of clicking on Movies, Shows and Apps. These settings can later be changed by going to Settings>General>Menu

We have made a couple of changes to the generic browse screens to make it easier to sort through large collections. There is now a Sort button that lets you make changes to sorting order without launching the Menu.

There is now an option to navigate quickly by A-Z. You will see an alphabet bar on the right, so you can quickly jump to 'W' in case you want watch "Wife Swap" or other quality programming.. ;)

We added two new filter options for local files. The ability to filter by Genre and back by popular demand is the ability mark items as Watched or Unwatched and filter just the files you have not watched.

For people who wanted a more frequent scanning of their libraries we have introduced an hourly scan option. We also added a Scan button to the browse screen, so you can manually trigger a scan of your video folders without needing to go to Settings.

We are sending a version for testing to Early Access users and hope to release an update some time next week. The new firmware will also include numerous bug fixes.

Thanks again for your feedback and trust.

Sounds like a winner - I'm very much looking forward to seeing it. A couple questions:

If I configure BB to use Local Files, then doing searching for my files, are hundreds of files from the internet still going to appear in the search results, or JUST my local files?

Also, what happens if I select "I'm not sure"

More to the point, what happens if you select "My own stuff"...

Then the large icons on the Home Screen do what you'd expect: Movies takes you your local Movies, Shows takes you to your local TV Shows. Per Avner's original post: http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=22313

How about letting us change the ui to look more like the windows boxee ui mainly the background. I also like the ability to pick my movies or my tv shows like the windows UI. Im new to the forums so sorry if this has been answered somewhere else how can I get my boxee to organize better namely some tv shows have been files under the movies section. I like how media browser lets you decide what you want as a movie and what a TV show because some TV shows produce a movie episode and I would like to keep it with the TV menu. Thanks I bought the boxee over others because I can see that this will be a very good player soon enough, I just hope that you guys will always support the early adopters unlike WD who just adds new features to new boxes without regard to the older players still in use.

Would be cool if we could show the most recent local media on the home page

This, looks like progress. If Boxee Box can scan my media sources correctly, finally see my smb mac shares and play my planet earth mkvs along with a few other trouble files correctl (the same my $70 seagate theater+ does) with this release, ill be back on the road to happiness .

    Avner,

Could you always display weather and clock like in previous UI ?

    Thanks
