Default Did they actually do any testing?

I have yet to have one totally acceptable experience with this box. I have to wonder if they ever actually tested the box before they sent it out.

TV shows can play fine but every now and again the picture starts freezing for a second or two.. they they run super fast to catch up again. If I start up the subtitles using the opensubtitles option then it does it everytime.

Thumbnails suck and why should applications have to "install" every time you run them.

Why would you have the box change its UI so drastically the first time its turned on. ?

Clearly they rushed this thing out too soon so lets hope we can get an update that fixed the problem.

I ordered this after using the windows version... what a let down!

Do we really need another thread every time someone buys the Boxee Box, repeating stuff already gone over ad infinitum in other threads here?

Before making any major purchase it's wise to read the reviews and the user forums and see what people are saying. Anyone now being surprised by what they find in the Box must have not read up on it in advance.

Or maybe I'm being unnecessarily grumpy.

The audacity of the OP! I mean, for him to expect a semi-working product when he shells out $200. I tell you, people nowadays just ask for too much. Boxee should have just sold him parts and soldering gun... I mean, after all, this is turning into a hobby pre-alpha joke.

Maybe I missed the timelimit on feedback?

I ordered weeks before launch, and have had the thing for around a week. When I purchased the only way to research it was to install one of the other versions which is what I did.

Amazon actually told you to download the version to experience boxee.. Problem was the download and my boxee box are only distantly related.

The hardware has the power but the thing is constantly freezing and pausing and everything lags like it is on a 56k connection even though its wired. You cant tell me that they didnt know some of these glaring bugs and UI blunders.

Am I suppose to pack this up for a couple of months and pull it out and hope that it is close to a ready product.

But what am I explaining myself to a grumpy wanna be moderator for? Up to yesterday you were bitching on the rewind option but now you want to question me when I provide my feedback. pfft

I hear alot of people complaining about the network performance of this unit. I can only speak for myself, but I have not experienced any of this stuttering that I can blame on the Boxee Box.

Now I do experience a slight stutter if I leave a movie/show paused for a longer period of time. This is caused though from the drives on my NAS needing to spin back up and usually only lasts a second or 2. I really have to wonder how much of these issue's are caused by a less than ideal network setup at home.

    Just my 2cents.

I have to agree with you. I used the PC version and really liked it so i got the box. Im not unsatasified but not overly thrilled with the newer interface. I experience alot of what you posting, micro freezes confused box when long lists of movies loading thumb pics... alot of this could have been avoided. but seems the holiday almighty dollar was too much of a pull to release a product unfinished IMHO.

Im hoping they will provive a couple options for the interface like internet focused or local focused. I bought this more fot a local media. seems like EVERYTHING I have has internet services on it, bluray, xbox ps3 roxu etc.

    anyway, I feel ya Comfort

Bait and switch. Plain and simple. Save the good intentions speeches - good intentions are usually communicated openly first, then executed on a opt-in alpha/beta trial.

I am in the wrong business I tell you. Bait people in with the promise of some sweet-ass hardware, let them bite/buy it, make huge changes just as the customer receives the product, add a super-annoy nag screen to basically force you into the alpha/beta program. then sit back and let the paying guinea pigs do the QA and development for you.

    wtf...

No we don't and to think that no testing was done at all before releasing something is absurd.

That's just it, you are prefacing your feedback with an accusation. We more than welcome (and encourage) feedback, but there's no need to instigate yet another one of "these" topics.

For those reasons I'm closing this. Feel free to create a new topic that provides your feedback/questions/concerns.
