Default Some things I noticed w my new boxee..

well first off i liked the PC version and decided to get a hardware boxee. I got it yesterday and right off the bat the remote was missing. Called d-link no help AT all, Dell is shipping a new one out but... a temp solution was to download the boxee remote app for my iphone untill new one arives but suxs!

anyway, the box version is NOT like the pc version, I have more difficulty navigating around. the interface IMHO suxs as is. I need much greater cusomization. I feel like my files are not the focus, boxee wants me to watch thier recommed stuff. I want a true HOME bar with ONLY what I want on it.

I think the designers were too much internet happy content and put the local media source as an after thought, wrong thinking again IMHO.

I feel the box is WAY underpowered. I would gladly pay a bit more for a bigger processor. Im not someone who likes to stare at spinning circles. Ive had this box freeze several times when confused by my button pushing. It just seems underpowered and struggling.

I have an extensive media collection over +4500 movies and some 7500 mp3s. I need much greater control over searches catagories etc. yea yea yea. I could just goto the file section and pull up what i want, but then whats the point of this box at all? I like the IMDB connection and such.

all in all, maybe it will pan out but at current im feeling this box needs more power and TONS more custom options. I see alot of stuttering across most file formats and such, I see long pauses where the box gets confused, IMHO I think more power would sovle this instead of forcing that poor 1gz to do it all and in HD lol....

currently NO NETFLIX or HULU+ this is HUGE guys, I bought this to replace other box tops I have, this must be added NOW!!! I would like a refund if these promissed apps are NOT added very very quickly, like before my ability to return this unit past return policy

Think boxee focused on the wrong demographic for its end users doing all this internet and not giving equal focus on local files.

few more things that I initaly see but....

1st if you want a refund contact the retail location where you purchased it.

2nd)NetFlix should be here before the end of the year, this has been known since the official launch. Hulu+ there has been no date given or timeframe, its coming but we jsut dont know when.

    3) as of the latest update when you search your local files come up 1st, not sure what your looking for exactly. There will also be UI tweaks made to help bring local content to the forefront, this will take time, but we should have the 1st looks at the 1st update for UI tweak late this week.

    4) As far as the power goes, the BB has plenty of power to do what it needs. Its actually one of the most powerful media player chips on the market today in its category. If you want a more powerful chip you may want to either build an HTPC or wait for next gen media players to come out.

The loading you are seeing is due to the box goign out and getting the covers each time you look at them. they are not stored locally as of yet. Boxee is working on an update so that the users can cache the covers locally.

Also as far as stuttering goes you will need to give more detailed information for anyone to give you assistance. The basic information needed is as follows:

File Type (mediainfo is the best)
How the file is accessed (network\local wired\wireless)

As well as if this is happening to all files, specific types of files, ect. The more information you give the easier it will be for those that can to help you.

This is all great to hear of course, I think Im a bit disillusioned becouse of my PC version experience, lighting fast scrolling etc. the thumbnails NOT being local stored??!! this is VERy sad, as that is exactly what takes time up. the stuttering was happening mainly on AVI files gereraly 750 MB to 1.5 GB. I wired it directly to router not wireless. I like speed.

I understand this unit is currently in flux with updates and such this was just sort of a shapshot of what I see at this perticular moment.

again Id like to see this thing with much more power though, I still feel 1gh is underpowered for what it has to do espicaly at 1080p.

Im hoping for a very quick solution to the thumb pics storage. that seems like a major over site when dealing with literly 1000's of files.

Oh and what happened to the 3rd USB port?!?!

Like what Ph8 said, if you have playback issues on certain files, you should post the MediaInfo or if you want, you could edit/clip the file to a smaller size and submit it to the Boxee team to look at.

That's one thing though, because with what you said, "stuttering across most file formats". I have had no major issues with any of the files that I've played (mixtures of AVI, MKV, MP4, ISO, in 720p or 1080p formats). Have you tried a factory reset?

Maybe there's a slight problem with your setup that's causing some lag. If possible, you should post and go more in-depth about your setup and maybe someone can help you troubleshoot it.

This chip has bucket loads of power for what it needs it for. It's my main reason for going BB. It's probably the most powerful general purpose chip in the media player market.

Something like the WDTV gets the job done with a Sigma chip running at 500MHz. I wouldn't get caught up with clock speeds of things, it doesn't show a direct relationship to power. All you need to know is this chip is fit for the job.
