    Default Web Browser Sucks

    I should write a book, and yes, before you say, I am probably going to return it, but I am hoping that Boxee will fix these issues, and if so I may buy one again.

    I know they don't encourage use of the browser, but what I want the freedom to view ALL content from my couch. The browser has these major issues:

    * Cannot change home page
    * Cannot change search engine (Bing, are you kidding me????)
    * Remote does not do Caret Browsing (the remote sucks bad enough, but why not at least have Caret Browsing???)
    * Simple things do not work, for example the Sign-In buttons on youtube.com...what the heck is that??

    Nice to see two threads where noth could be one

    1st the browser is barebones, its something that is known and has been talked about over an over and over again. Boxee never intended the browser to be used like an actual browser it was more of a "fallback".

    The browser is being worked on and will be updated in a future release.

    I know and that is why made the comment about it's use not being encouraged, but so what? I mean, what is the point of having a device like this, if I still have to have an HTPC hooked up so that I can browse the web, and yes, I know they are going to work on it, but I'm still going to complain, because it's one of the many reasons why I'm sending it back tomorrrow.

    There are sooooooooooooooo many features and functions to this very complex device. It plays video, music, indexes, surround sound, new UI. Then the browser is New, webkit browser. It's not nailed and it was never stated it would wold be a full version right out of the gate. Too much to nail down with regard to video that the browser is one for the back burner at the present (hell, I think it works great for what little time they had to make it work!). Currently, not everything that everyone wants is perfect, but will be chiseled down as the weeks pass.

    Expectations for it are valid, but not the timing.

    I sure hope the developers don't think like that...

    I may come back, and if this was the only issue, no, it's not a showstopper...this is: http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=22923

    Or that it won't adjust to HDMI to DVI. Some say it will, some say it won't. Having to buy a newer TV to use the device shows limitation of implementation design flaws. I'm an engineer and it happens, and this is one of those cases, in my opinion.

    hey, I understand that the browser was almost an afterthought, but with the great majority of TV shows through fancast broken and the others that won't auto-fullscreen, this "fallback" is slowly and sadly becoming a boxee box mainstay.

    I think Video, UI and browser should be their priorities in that order.
