Angry Network and internet connection drops on the same network while Boxee Box is running!

Network and internet connection drops from all other computers on the same network while Boxee Box is running. I have my Boxee Box connected to my network using a wired connection straight into my router with the IP address set manually to a static address. Every time the Boxee Box is running all other connections to the network and internet drop out consistently. It used to do this occasionally with the 1.0.1.16215 firmware but ever since the update this weekend to the 1.0.1.319 version of the firmware this connectivity drop out happens all the time. Basically, while Boxee is running, no other computers can access the internet or other computers on the same network.

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

I have created an issue over at the Boxee Issue Tracker website:
    http://jira.boxee.tv/browse/BOXEE-7260

Go over and vote for this issue if you are experiencing this with your network and Boxee Box.

This was happening back a few weeks ago for a few users of the original v1 update and discussed on another thread. Myself included, but I've not expereinced it since the last firmware update.

It has become consistent in this latest firmware update. It was only happening sometimes before the update. So now the Boxee Box is useless unless everyone wants to sit in front of the TV and not be on the home network or internet. So for me this update has made the Boxee Box pretty worthless, I was "semi" happy with it before, minus the UI changes.

Just to be clear, I am not talking about complete loss of connection to the internet or other computers on the network but more like sporadic dropping of network connections.

For example, my BB is hooked up via ethernet cable to my router and is turned on. The BB is not watching a show or anything just sitting at the home page. Now I am sitting with my laptop on the same network via wireless connection and my connection to the internet will come and go, sometimes I will lose internet connection completely and it wont come back until I turn the BB off. Also, if I try to browse a shared folder on my PC, which is also on the same network via a wireless connection, I am only able to connect to the folder occasionally. It basically acts just like the internet connection does.

I know it was said that some people have experienced this with the original 1.0 firmware but has anyone else had this happen to them with the new update? It seems worse for me after the update. If this has happened to you, was there anything you did to work around this issue?

As I said, I have created an issue for this on jira as I searched and did not find any issues posted there concerning this.

This has been really frustrating as I want to be using the Boxee Box and the wife likes to be browsing the internet at the same time. This issues does not bode well for the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor).

My wife actually asked me: WILL IT BLEND!

Seems she's a little more techy than I gave her credit for.

This is, in my opinion, the most serious bug of all right now, as it negatively affects all internet users in my household. It has been happening since I purchased the BB on day one through the recent firmware update.

Whenever I forget to completely shut down both of my Boxee Boxes, inevitably get a frantic phone call from my wife or kids at home telling me the internet is no longer working. I then have to walk them through a fix (check which BB is powered on, turn it off, reset the gateway, reset the router).

This is just ridiculous and inexcusable. it is one thing for the BB to have a bug which affects BB-related functions. It is quite another for the BB to affect the rest of my network. Both of my Boxee Boxes will be going back to Amazon if this problem is not fixed in the next firmware update.

I have to agree with you that this is the most serious bug of all right now. I'm unfortunately glad that I am not the only one having this issue. Anyone else with this issue need to go to the link I provided in the first post and vote this issue up so that the developers will get it fixed.

    Hi guys,

What routers are you using? Do you have the latest firmware version for your router?

The odds are pretty good that our network scanning is exposing some sort of bug in your router and causing it to crash, but it'd be good to be sure.

    Thanks,

    Hi guys,

I agree, this is a very series issue which we haven't faced before.
Would you let me know if you both use static IP for BoxeeBox?
What's your home network setup? Just trying to figure out if there's anything in common.

I have the same problem as outlined above, my internet connection would get screwed, and the only thing I can do is to reset my router.

I am using Apple's Airport Extreme with the Boxee Box connected via Ethernet cable.

Are you using static IP or DHCP?
