    Default Recommended wireless settings

    Hi,

Recommended wireless settings for your wireless access point or router, settings that BoxeeBox will potentially have less troubles with are -
    WPA2-PSK + AES

Several users have reported issues with BB when the AP/router was configured with TKIP - http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=23117.
Until we resolve this issue we recommend to use WPA2-PSK + AES

If you change your router/AP settings, don't forget to make sure all your other wireless network client - PCs/laptops/streamers/NASs/.. - are still connected and that there's no need to change their settings.

If you have any problem, please add to your problem description your router/AP settings + model an the way Boxee was configured.

Thanks for your patience and cooperation,

    Just an fyi---

I have my linksys WRT54G set with just WPA Personal and TKIP and it connected fine.

Though, during setup BBox did not want to initially connect while my SSID was not broadcasting. Funny, I set it to broadcast and then it connected with all the same settings. Then turn off broadcast.

    Thanks for the updated info!

My home router works with TKIP and there's no problem as well.
You should change your settings only if you have problems.

    FYI, wireless engineer here...

TKIP isn't supported in the 802.11n spec, it will be AES only. Depending on the router(s), some will go into a pre-standard legacy mode and do 802.11n with TKIP, others will not. To be WFA certified, starting (I think in 2011 or 2012), they will not be able to get WFA certification unless they go AES only on 802.11n.

    http://wifinetnews.com/archives/2010..._and_tkip.html

So if your wifi router is configured for 802.11n using TKIP, change it and the Boxee to use AES. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot in how the wifi router and the boxee device negotiate their link rate, and are probably (in most cases) running in legacy rates.

I have a non-hidden network using WPA2-PSK (AES). It intermittently fails to connect, both with the original 1.0 firmware and the updated firmware. I can go into wireless settings, refind the network, apply the settings, and it still fails. However, I got it to work when I click "Cancel" on the "Network not found" error and redo the network wizard.

And sometimes it works just fine. I have a couple other computers and a PS3 running off of wireless just fine. I can see no log or error message to help with diagnosis.

I think this is an issue with boxeebox not waiting enough time for the wireless connection to be setup.
How's the wireless signal that boxee shows for you network? Could it be that it's a weak signal?

Default wired/wireless setup could not be saved.

    I have both wired/wireless.
Now , if I setup wired and use the box, then later if I decide to setup wireless, then the wired setup info is lost, and vice versa.
Is this a bug or is this the intended way of setup?
Would be nice bbox can save the wired/wireless info once setup.

I Broadcast my ssid, and triend different wpa, wap2 etc, even unsecured.
I even tried different speeds ( 54,130 & 300 mbit ) and also tried setting up guest network. With all these attempts, i still dont see my network on my boxee box.

I use an Netgear wndr3700 with both 2,4 and 5 GHz.

    Please help me out.

Does it show any other wireless networks? Have you tried taking the box away from the corner? Mine is in a place where the signal strength is 8%, and the box doesn't always pick it up.
