What is wrong with my brand new $226.00 boxee box i can't believe that this unit looks so good on paper and in real life this is the biggest and i mean biggest hunk of junk i have ever used. I have used and still do use media boxes all over my house wdtv box and 3 box office units and i was waiting for this boxee box to be released and was so excited about it so today i rushed over to my pc store and grabbed the last one they had they (sold out in a day) but when i got this unit it home it was more than a disapointment it froze up more times then i can count then finallly crashed and all i get now is black screen this unit is just plain JUNK. I had such high hopes for this in my home theater replacing the box office and doing all the wonderful thing that this box had to offer but unfortunately all this boxee box is good for is looking pretty and it dosent even do that very well.. yet another try by dlink to make a good product hahahaha to bad that will never happen. Tomorrow i will return this c**p and buy the Xtreamer pro the one i should have got in the first place may not have the things this piece of c**p says it has but it works perfetly and i have seen it in action and i can put 2 2tp hds in it if i want.
thank you so much dlink for selling me such a huge piece of junk i will make sure i pass the word around to as many people as i can about how incredibly junky and useless your boxee box is. Thanks for wasting my time driving to buy this junk and for the 4 hours i spent trying to make it work and the time to drive back and return it to the store so i can buy a real media box. Anyone who has just picked one of these boxee box junkers up should return it right away because by the look of this thing and the heat that comes off it the life expectancy is not going to be long...

i have to agree that it definitely does need polishing.

they should have left it at stable .9 instead of giving us very unstable 1.0

i don't know what the devs were thinking surprising us by giving us a new OS. :angry:

Until today, i would have agreed that it is not junk, just needs work. However, in light of my resent problems, i now have a $200 paperweight. Since it can't connect to the internet, and after doing a factory reset and trying again, i can't get passed the initial setup therefore i'm stuck on "try again?"

So, i'm officially out. With the same cash +75$, i'm going to go pick up a dual core netbook with HDMI out. my friend laughed at me when i bought the box because he has been running boxee on his netbook for awhile now, and it works fine, plugged in an IR receiver and he basically made his own boxee which he keeps under his TV. Sad to say, it actually works better for almost the same cost.

So, tommorow afternoon, i'm following in his footsteps and i'm gonna go pick up a netbook instead, or a cheap laptop, I mean, black friday is right around the corner.

i agree with you to a point.

(for creditability: i have a mac mini media center running boxee and i also have the BB.)

the mac mini has no problems running boxee (while the BB does have problems running boxee :jab: lmao)

the only problem i have with using a computer to run boxee is that you have to have a mouse and keyboard (or equivalent) because you can never leave that "computer OS" navigation; and from a distance, navigating a computer OS is aggravating, especially using a keyboard and mouse.
i really like being able to shut the boxee off and turn it on with the remote. that is not really possible with a computer because you have to exit boxee and shutdown, OR leave your computer on in standby mode all the time.
all in all, the BB offers that Instant ON/OFF that i like very much whereas a computer running boxee doesn't. and for me, thats about the only reason why i enjoy using it more than my mac mini -the new UI sucks bawlz.
all that said, a computer running boxee does have its benefits, like multitasking boxee and managing downloads, or whatever else.

what i am getting at is that using the BB (especially with the 1.0 UI) is not for everyone, and like you, using a computer may be a better choice for them.

I'm impatiently tapping my fingers but waiting.. but the Xtreamer Pro or whatever it is, is junk if it has only 256mb of memory..

BB does have problems but junk it is not. A person can't blame BB for his own $tupity and ignorance. Take some time to try to learn its operation. Before you post your rants on this site, read the posts that might help you or ask for help. If after a week or so you still can't get the boxee box to do anything then you know that you either have a bad box or you are too inept to be handling this type of hardware.

The BB team made some monumental mistakes that they might regret very shortly but the box is still usable. Why would you have over a million people beta test your software, software that was getting appraisals from everyone, and abandoned it at the 12th hour. It makes no sense. It might be that they were preasure by their investors, who knows, but they should all be kicking themselves in the ass once a day every day until they make things wright.

The box is not great yet, but it should get there. It is already better than wdtv live(I'm able to play my iso or vob and I get cover art). Hell, I have spent every evening this week washing movies on thru the net that are not even on pay-per view on cable yet.

Reviews that I have read say that Google TV should be tag as beta.

AppleTV, well is Apple.

If you just want Netflix, Amazon, Hulu + and a few others and you don't have local media, then you cannot beat Roku.

I will be dissapointed if Netflix doesn't play as good on BB when it is released. That would be a deal breaker and I already have my return label printed out just in case Netflix support doesn't make a showing in the BB very very soon. I am already very dissapointed in the delay with the patch releases. I better see improvement in the UI before christmas.
