Default Must SMB-share be on same subnet to be indexed?

    Hi.

My Boxee Box never ever finds anything, at all, when scanning added network folders. The things is that my XBMC Xbox that I used up until recently never found anything either.

Both can browse file structure, and plays the content there just fine.

Haven't been able to figure out why this is. My SMB-server is on another subnet than my client lan, and they cannot see the server if I don't point it directly towards the correct ip-adress. In the middle of all this there is a FreeBSD router/fw with lots of interfaces.

Is this subnet situation the explanation to my problems? Too bad if that is the case, since I want my network to be set up this way.

Yes that's your problem Boxee uses some sort of NETBIOS to check is the share is connected. If your on a different subnet using IP address to connect to a share it will show disconnected. Annoying isn't it.

    Yes, very annoying.

I've set up a NETBIOS-server on the router mashine, and now Boxee kan connect to NETBIOS-names, and don't need the ip.

    Still disconnected, thou...

(The NETBIOS-server solved my problem with printer sharing between subnets in Windows, so atleast I gained something.)
