Default No hourly or continual scan in the upcoming update?

I was reading the notes on the upcoming update: http://forums.boxee.tv/showthread.php?t=22906

I don't see anything listed about an hourly scanning or continual scanning option (like what is currently available in .9). Maybe they are calling it something else and I have missed it in the notes?

No I dont believe they are adding another scanning option in this update, probably a future one. I also dont think there is goign to make it as constant as you may want. There was discussion about this in the local file thread for more details I would search that one.

No, you didn't miss anything. It's not coming in the next update. And as far as I can tell there's been no commitment to any date of any sort for this one.

    there, I found Avner's statement:

Planned solution: Introduce a more granular scanning option. Maybe in an hourly resolution as well as make it easier to "force" Boxee to scan a source for new files.
I think "granular" is just an intentionally vague way of saying that folder monitoring will come back but not in the form we saw in the beta. My personal suspicion is that the box is a little too light weight to handle constant monitoring...

I am currently running 0.9 (I blocked the update site) on my Boxee Box and continual scanning works Great with a capital G. So you can't say that the hardware cannot do it.

I'd just stick with this .9 version forever, except I have too many local files that don't play right (all play on the wdtv).

Only about 60 more days before it has to be shipped back to Amazon if it's not resolved...

Then I don't know what the reason is that seems to make them want to keep away from constant monitoring. Maybe they hope that if you have to wait for an hour for your files to show up you will watch some of their partner's online content in the meantime?

While rediculous to wait and hour, IF they added hourly scanning and possibly a quicker folder scan then I would 100% be keeping it. That's also assuming they work out the codec issues, which it looks like they have.

I think it's (also) in the plans to make it easier to force a rescan (instead of having to navigate back to Settings>>LocalSources>>Source>>Scan)

Even when I do that it takes ages. Sometimes almost an entire day before new content shows up. Linux has built in comparison functions in order to compare indexed content to an existing folder structure... This should be much faster.

Takes 10-20 minutes for a scan on mine.

I think they should add in some kind of smaller, smarter scan.
    Pick: TV Shows
    Pick: Chuck
At this point Boxee knows that I have a folder /videos/tv shows/chuck/season 1/file.avi
So right here lets scan /videos/tv shows/chuck/ and thats it.

Should take 3 seconds, pop some results in, lets get 'er done.

I'm really hoping that's the approach they take myself
