DVD wont play

First let me say that I absolutely love Boxee and what you have done with it to date. It is precisely what I was looking for for my MacMini.

Unfortunately, I am having trouble playing a physical DVD disc. When I select the disc within the Boxee menu, I am able to click play, but that is where the fun ends. All I get is a black screen and no audio. I am able to call up the onscreen player controls, but no matter what I do, all I have is a black screen. Any suggestions? Is there a need to select the correct region for physical media in order to get it to play?

it sounds like wrong region dvd.

I have this issue as well, with Region 2 discs in a Region 2 (UK) internal Mac Mini drive.

I ended up fixing this, though with more of a sledgehammer than skill. I ended up deciding that I was due to start "fresh" with my OS and reinstalled 10.5 and then Boxee (along with everything else). Oddly enough, the first time I reinstalled Boxee, there was not even an option of playing a disc as the CD/DVD icon on the left screen in Boxee was not even here. Uninstalled and reinstalled and PRESTO! All is well.

No doubt that this approach is not for everyone, but it was something that I had been meaning to do anyway so I figured now was as good a time as any...

I wonder if it will be there next time. I'm having a similar problem in Ubuntu, where the DVD only sporadically appears. Need to check the log file to see if it is mentioned.
