Thread: Frustrated with the Internet content.

Default Frustrated with the Internet content.

I just don't get it. Watching any of the current Internet content on Boxee is next to worthless unless you like grainy video and having to click on everything you watch to enlarge it to full size. The majority of Internet related content is just not up to being displayed on today's HD TV's. IF we had Hulu HD content and Netflix HD content and possibly VUDU it would be better.

Half the links off the app screen you click on are a crap shoot on whether they will stream or not (broken links) and the others are are just poor in quality.

What are some of the high quality content app's you use that actually work on Boxee? I'd like to really see what all the hype about Internet streaming on your TV is about but so far think it's over rated.

Streaming local content is another story.

Not sure if you have tried it, but the Revision 3 app is a good one. The TED app is also good. The video quality from both of those looks okay on my 1080p at normal viewing distance...especially Revision 3.

Rev3, TED, Speed, The Escapist (Woo Zero Punctuation!!!), Auto Tune The News.

Something to bear in mind btw is, what you describe isn't any less of a problem on a computer monitor. I long ago got over the "anything at youtube.com is shite" reaction. That being said, if it's on YT in HD, it seems to play in HD on the boxee (another point where it differs from the WDTV Live btw). Watching, for instance, Husky Starcraft's replay casting, looks FANTASTIC.

Right up until the point where it stops playing because youtube sucks (and Leanback doubly so).

I guess the point is, BB does internet TV just fine (though some of the apps are flaky, but thats the devs fault), the internet, however, does not do TV just fine.

You cannot collect video from a hundred different sources made by two hundred different people and expect it to be consistent, they've done their best to MAKE it consistent but...

Oh and as yet I've never had to maximize a tiny video.

You haven't had to use the touch pad to scroll to the maximize button on a show? It happens on almost any TV episode I try and watch.

Unfortunately thats what web video is Until they start to realize that this is where internet video is headed they will continue to produce low quality video for their sites. - There are many great sources out there however as mentioned previously. We will be brining back many of the missing tv library sources as soon as we work out some technical issues we are having. (Same thing with videos not going fullscreen by themselves, issues we are working on)

As far as the sources that are giving you broken links can you elaborate on that? Which videos specifically are no longer available?

You'll get your paid hd sources soon too don't worry ;p Its all coming please hang in there!

I'll try and get you some links. I'm at work right now. Also, please don't interpret my rant as me being unhappy. I do like the Boxee current glitches aside and I bought it mostly for streaming local content I am just trying to see for myself if there is something I'm not getting or missing from streaming over the Internet.

Good to hear. My biggest beefs with the online experience so far is the lack of automatic fullscreen and the audio dropout bug.

I agree, a lot of sites don't understand that with the ability to watch Internet tv now video streams need to be higher quality or they will get lost in the shuffle.
Here is a weird thing though. I have Roku and just got my box yesterday. On Roku i have the Koldcasttv channel, terrific channel and most episodes in HD. Looks awesome on roku and videos open within 2/3 secs.
One of the first apps i tried on Box was Koldcasttv and was shocked at the difference. Most of the exact same series that I opened minutes earlier on my Roku wouldn't open, a few that did took several minutes and the video quality was terrible, just awful. Now, I've barely used the Box, but this weekend intend to really test it. I'm really hoping it was a glitch.
    same with twit.tv
I had to say I love, love, love the shape of box after making fun of it for 6 months. Killer remote except for the screwy choice of font color. My guess is a backlit comes out very soon and that will be fine.
