    Lightbulb Canada Content and Restricions

Boxee Box now available in canada via Best Buy and Future Shop .

What apps, content, and restrictions can I expect if Boxee Box is purchased/used in Canada?

You will not be able to access anything that is geo-locked without using the built in VPN client

There is a fair amount of content from Global, CityTV, CBC etc - probably not as much as is available in the US, but it's OK.

If you want to check the content, download Boxee for your PC/Mac and take a look - just don't get too attached to the UI

I am from Canada so I'll help where I can.

There are 134 available apps. I haven't tried them all, but most are functioning normally. Those that require you to be in the USA (like Vudu) do not stream. There is a CBC app, but it only shows The National. There is also a TVO app that works well. The AccuWeather app found my obscure location (Midland, ON). YouTube and most other video apps worked without an issue.

As for TV shows I was pretty impressed with what was available. It found things like "how I met your mother", "family guy", "office", "coronation street", from Canadian sources like CTV, CityTV, Discovery Channel, CBC, etc. Basically, if a Canadian broadcaster has the show streaming on their website then it will work.

If there was a HBO app I'd be cancelling my cable TV.

There is a decent list of shows available in Canada under the "Shows" menu. Most of the major Canadian networks are there except CTV. I don't think the list of working shows changed from version 0.9, so download it and have a look. Make sure you go into the settings and identify that you are in Canada and tell it you only want content available in your area.

As for Apps, many are built on web shows and work. The ones that you shouldn't expect to work are premium ones. Netflix does not work yet on the Boxee Box and actually does not work on the desktop version either in Canada. I expect when the new Netflix app comes out it will probably add Canadian support (before the end of the year). Vudu does not work in Canada. Hulu Plus, when it comes, will not work either. Those will all be hidden if you restrict content to your region. Pandora doesn't work here.

    CTV, YTV, Space, and TVTropolis.

the quality seems to be based on the show and not the source.

I'm in Toronto, and honestly am super happy with the selection of available shows.

Considering to start using a VPN again for a month or so, just to see what else is available.

Is CBC actually working for people in general?

Is there a place where we can suggest content? Tou.tv has pretty decent content.

It works ok for me, but no option to pause video (eg-The Hour) Bit of a pain when you'd want a snack or a leak..... Any other Canadians having the same issue with CBC feeds?

There is already an application for tou.tv, which works very well.

    Check it out : http://code.google.com/p/tou-tv-for-boxee/

There is a repository so you can easily install it on the Boxee Box.
