Thread: audio sync

    Default audio sync

Got my Boxee Box today. Hooked it up straight HDMI to my HDTV. I only had a little time to play with it so I copied two video files (an older AVI file from my older Sony D8 camcorder, and a new .m2ts file from my newer HD camcorder) onto my Sandisk Titanium memory stick then plugged it inot the BB. The BB played my .m2ts file just fine, however the AVI file playback had an audio sync issue...either the audio was ahead by 1 to 2 seconds, or the video was behind by 1 to 2 seconds. I then plugged the memory stick back in to my PC and was able to play both files on my PC using the Boxee app with no audio sync issue at all.

This is not a good start for me with the BB...I was expecting it to perform just like the Boxee app.

So I'm guessing no one else has had audio sync issues like I had?

I've noticed that with some divix avi's that the video seems to be playing faster than the audio. Once I press ffwd a bit then it seems to fix itself. I'm on v.9 not the 1.0.

Try adjusting the audio sync - top right corner of screen when playing the content - settings/audio/audio offset

Either my offset doesn't work, or it is more offset than the slider allows but sliding it does not work for me. The audio is 2sec or more ahead of the video for all of my home movie AVIs.

I ran a little experiment tonight. Using Pinnacle 11, I created two output files. One was a straight DV AVI 720x480 (file size was 364MB) and one was a DivX AVI (Hi Def 1280x720).

The DV AVI file playback was choppy and audio was way out of sync. On the other hand the DivX AVI was perfectly in sync and playback was great, other than the thin [but noticeable] horizontal lines. I see these lines across the screen even when using the Boxee GUI. Is this normal or can it be eliminated?

Since the DivX AVI seemed to work for me I may just end up going through all my raw footage and create Divx AVI files for each shoot date. Only question I have is the aspect ratio from the original file 720x480 (or 3:2) to the final file 1280x720 (or 16:9)...I didn't notice that my footage was stretched out. Perhaps it was too subtle to notice?

    Would appreciate any feedback.

Can't speak for the BBox but I have the linux version and I have been having this problem for quite awhile. I have it on almost everything I try to play. I am sorry but I don't think the audio offset is a fix because it just works in XBMC and other players. Why can't boxee get it right?

I have the same problem with Divx avi on my BBox. V1.0.1.16125 Audio offset has no affect. (also, it seems like the box struggles with the file overall - playback is choppy and sometimes slow when the file is first warming up. Also, sometimes slow to restart after pause, etc...)

I don't guess there is any way to contribute to your bug report, but I will if I can.
